Junior A Footballers advance to third round

East Cork Junior A Football Championship Round 2 V Bride Rovers Venue Glenville

Glenville 0-13

Bride Rovers 1-6

Our Junior A Footballers overcame the challenge of our Rivals Bride Rovers to book their place in the third round of the East Cork Championship. Having gotten over the first round defeat against Castelyons we knew that this was our last chance to stay in the championship. We would normally associate the word snow to do with the winter but on this occasion a heavy down pour of snow and a strong Gael Forced wind made it hard for both Teams. However Straight from the throw in it was our lads that were first out of the traps notching up the first Five points in the space of ten minutes. Despite the constant heavy down pour we seemed to be in control with our quick movement off the ball. It took the rovers fifteen minutes to get their first score of the game and that would be their only score of the half. We finished the half strong with a Paudie Cahill Pointed free and by the short whistle we held a 0-6 to 0-1 lead at the interval.  A Blistering start from the rovers had them right back in the match with a string of unanswered points to cut the deficit down to two points then a mix up in the Glenville defence saw the rovers get in for a goal to edge them into the lead but the cause didn’t get any better and within a flash they put the ball straight over the bar to leave the scores at 1-5 to 0-6. But full credit has to go to our lads as we refused to give up as our experience players stepped up to the mark and Right Conor Forward Kieran Coakley led by example. We put over some delightful scores and by the twenty fifth minute mark we had turned a two point deficit into a five point lead. The rover’s response was only a single point and by the time the full time whistle sound we knew we had the job done as we ran out four point winners. Overall a great performance by our lads we will now be in the third round draw with our opponents TBC.

East Cork Junior B Football Championship V Youghal

Venue Fouhy Park

Glenville 1-5

Youghal 3-18

More than less to say than a one sided Match when this first round meeting between two sides that served up a thriller at the same stage of the competition last year with the outcome going in favour of our lads. Despite been beaten we are still in the completion where we will face Glenabower Rovers which is set to take place this weekend at the Time of Writing Date Time and Venue is still TBC.

Rebel Og Central Premier 1 under 12 Football League v Carrigaline

Venue Fouhys

Last Saturday afternoon our under 12 accounted for Carrigaline on home soil. Both teams played out a good game of football but on the day the opposition were the much stronger of the two and came away comfortable winners.

Rebel Og East under 13 A Football League v Aghada

Venue Glenville

Glenville 3-17

Aghada 1-1

Our under 13 Team had a comfortable win on home soil as they easily saw off a Dogged Aghada Side. Conditions on the day were good and playing against a very light breeze we made use of it as we ran into a 1-4 to 0-00. Aghada response was a goal but that would be their only score in the first half as our complete dominance lead to very good performances from Eanna Fitzgerald, Eoghan Knap and Colin O’Keefe and by the short whistle we had racked up another eight points to leave the scores at 1-12 to 1-00.  Glenville we never in any real danger as with kept up our good performance with some sublime score been put over in the end we ran out very comfortable winners. Well done lads on a great win all played very well.

Juvenile Championship This weekend

This Saturday afternoon will see our under 14 Team take on St Nick’s in the second round of the Championship. Both teams received a Bye in the first round. We have a very limited panel to choose from but we no dough that when these lads put on the black and amber they always wear it with pride. Your support is greatly appreciated.
