Juvenile Round-Up

U12 trip to Croke Park

It was an early start as 27 under 12’s and young whistler James O’Driscoll dragged themselves out of bed at 6am during mid-term for their day out in Croke Park. As always they had great support as they were joined on the trip by a number of parents and other family members. Arriving under the Cusack stand at 10:30, their Croke Park experience began with an excellent tour of the stadium which the children really enjoyed. That did not compare though with the opportunity to play on the hallowed turf. Lisgoold played three games on the Croke Park pitch against Naomh Padraig (Tipperary Town), Clonea (Waterford) & Clooney Quinn (Ennis). They played really well and thoroughly enjoyed. In light of their enjoyment levels the results are hardly relevant, but for the record they won 1, drew 1 and lost 1.  Back on the bus and back in the village that evening after the mandatory stop for burgers & chips, it doesn’t get much better for a 12 year old.  All in all it was an absolutely fabulous day and a huge opportunity for our stars of the future, it was really well organized by our Games Development Administrator, Kevin O Callaghan and Croke Park.

Hurling & Football Leagues

League matches are well underway for all age groups. Our U14s kicked off the week, with their opening hurling encounter resulting in an away win against a very gallant Fr.O'Neills side last Thursday. Playing with whatever breeze was there in the 1st half, the Lisgoold boys made a decent start with Mark Hegarty & Jamie Browne setting a nice pace from the off, and Luke Thompson and our goalie Christian Howard very assured under the high ball. Our backs grouped well to clear the ball, and with a decent supply going into the forward line, Izaak Walsh soon opened our account. Izaak continued to have a good game, supported by some strong running and finishing from Diarmuid Healy. Turning to face the wind, Fr.O'Neills made a right go of it in the 2nd half and pinned our boys back. Daniel Buckley stuck in well at midfield and later on at half back, and Dan Power got on an amount of ball. The game was seen out in a sensible manner. A rusty enough start but an encouraging start to the year nonetheless. On Fri, our minor team faced Ballinora at home in the hurling league. The lads made light work of the difficult conditions scoring a few goals to establish a decent lead at half-time. This allowed the opportunity to blood a couple of the younger squad members. Impressive on the night were Sean Nagle, Liam Stack, Caolan O’Brien and Rob Williams. On Sat, our U12 footballers recorded a good win on their travels away to Carrig na bhFear. Earlier on Saturday our U9s and U10s travelled to Rathcormac to play their Bride Rovers counterparts in hurling and football. Thanks to all concerned at Bride Rovers for a hugely enjoyable morning.
