Junior A Footballers lose out to Local Rivals after Extra Time

East Cork Junior A Football Championship v Castelyons

Venue Cloyne

Glenville 1-11

Castelyons 1-13 AET

Our Junior A Footballers were beaten by Local Rivals Castelyons after extra time in the opening round of the East Cork Junior A Football Championship. So another chapter in the script was about to be written and for the winners a place in the third round against the Regaining Champions Fa O’Neill’s. played in the very wet and windy conditions in the Cloyne venue and playing against the strong breeze it was our lads that were first out of the traps with our quick moment off the ball and by the early stages we had exposed Castelyons in every sector of the field and a Dylan Mc Carthy Goal in the opening two minutes gave us the perfect start. We hit over some great points from Josh Cooke and PJ Denhenny and by the 15 minute we led 1-3 to 0-0 but however this pace was too much to maintain for our lads as Castelyons purple patch began to kick in and a string of unanswered points had the gap down to the minimum at the interval 1-3 to 0-5.  Straight from the throw in on Form josh Cooke hit over his third point to put us by two but however concentration slipped in the Glenville defence as Castelyons almost got in for a goal but a brilliant save from keeper Eoin Barry kept them at bay but from the rebound Castelyons won a free and shot that looked like that was going over the bar found its way into the back off the next to edge the opposition in front. Both Teams went on to trade points at both end of the field our score came from a Kieran Coakley free and within second another Josh Cooke point had the teams level at 1-6 apiece with ten minutes remaining. The last ten minutes were very nip and tuck and two quick points from Castelyons had them in the driver’s seat but in injury time points from Josh and Denis O’Farrell insured that the tie would go to extra time. Both teams score two points in the first half of extra time our points came from Josh and William Connolly. In the second period of extra time Castelyons hit over three points in the space of five minutes to give them a three point advantage but another Josh point from a free reduced the gap to just two as we set up a cagey final few minutes and right at the death we were denied a penalty which meant it was Castelyons who would progress to the next round. We will now face another Rival Club Bride Rovers in round two of the Championship.

Rebel Og Central Premier 2 under 14 Football League v Kilshannig

Venue Kilshannig

Kilshannig 1-9

Glenville 1-2

In a match played in terrible weather conditions of bitterly cold driving rain and strong wind, we fielded a team of 13 young men who played one of their best games ever against a team of 13 Kilshannig players who also had the benefit of being able to call on 6 subs. With one of our players unable to continue in the second half due to sickness, we played the second half 12 men to 13 Kilshannig (with them bringing in fresh men from the bench). Our young men played excellent football, showed courage and determination throughout and every one of them can be very satisfied with their performance. Thanks to the parents who travelled to support the team and in particular the younger non-U14 players who played such a large part in the game today.

Rebel Og Central Premier 1 under 12 Football League v Nemo Rangers Venue Glenville

Glenville 3-6

Nemo Rangers 3-8
