Aghada GAA Club Notes

07 March, 2016

Intermediate Hurling Division 3 Hurling League.

Sunday 6th March 2pm in Rostellan.

Aghada 1-16  Grenagh 2-6.

The Intermediates got their season off to a winning start with a seven  point win over Grenagh .The pitch conditions after two football matchs made it very hard for hurling but they battled on. John Connolly got us on the way with 50metre side line cut over the bar .Pearse at full forward got the next point with William Leahy making it four points to no score. The forward line doing well with Pearse and Daniel creedon adding two more points,Grenagh got on the scoreboard with a Tom Kenny point. A few of our younger players would have being coached by Tom at U8 where do the years go. Michael Russell settled the defence at centre back, clearing a lot of ball. Ger Melvin and Stephen O Keeffe controlled midfield kept the supply into the forwards where Daniel Creedon and Tim Hartnett were causing trouble getting three points between them . Pearse and John Connolly added  three more . Grenagh plugged away and added five more points. The half time score was Aghada 0-10 to Grenagh 0-6,

The second half saw Trevor O Keeffe  the been  there done that attitude replace Martin Day between the posts. Davy rice was now working hard at corner back as Grenagh kept the pressure on. Our next three points came from William Leahy and substitute Charlie Terry before Grenagh got in for their first goal. Aaron Stafford came on for John Connolly and added a bit of pace. Aidan O Connell and Eoin Healy also came on. Grenagh then got their second goal. William Leahy responded with a powerful shot to settle us again. The second half scores belonged to William Leahy and Charlie Terry, getting 1-6 between them. The Man Of The match goes to Stephen O Keeffe at midfield who never stopped running.

Daly Bros line out for Aghada Juniors.

JFL 2 Aghada 1-5 Fr o Neills 2-8.

Wed 9th March. 8pm in Rostellan.

Wednesday night in Rostellan the three Daly brothers togged out for the junior footballers. James at wing forward . Paul at midfield and Stephen at corner forward. This was great to see despite the defeat. Aghada started well but took a while to open the score with a point from Conail Rabbit from a free. This was to be our only score of the first half. We missed a lot of easy chances. Fr o Neills were the better team in the half with a 2-5 tally. Andrew Murphy and Mark Healy worked hard in the defence. Cian O Driscoll put in a good performance in the forward line. The second half was ours with Tadgh Gilroy getting a point before Peter Cashman got our goal with a powerful shot. Points followed from Cian O Driscoll Mark Healy and Andrew Murphy. Fr O Neills got three points in second half . We needed more goals but never came. The playing field looks to be holding up ok and hopefully the upcoming spell of good weather will help with weekend fixtures.
