Junior Football League;

We travelled to Fuohy Park in Glenville last Tuesday night for our first Junior football league game of the year. Fielding a largely inexperienced team we acquitted ourselves very well losing by 5 points 14 pts to 1.06.

Playing against the wind and hill in the first half we were first to score with a Colm O’Sullivan free. Glenville began to get ahead on the scoreboard kicking some fine points but never looked like breaching our defence for an all important goal and led at the short whistle by 10 points to 1.

The elements at our backs in the second half brought about an improvement in our play and when substitute Luke Cullinane intercepted a clearance to goal we had the gap down to 3 points but two frees from our opponents brought the curtain down on a fine spirited performance.

Intermediate Hurling League;

Ballinhassig were the visitors to Cloyne on Sunday last for our second league game of the year and they emerged victorious by 5 points in what was a tempestuous and largely forgettable encounter. Played in cold wet conditions with no run on the ball which led to more scrums that you might see in Twickenham.

Ballinhassig led by one at half time 10 points to 1.06 the Cloyne goal scored by Colm O’Sullivan. The first score of the second half took 10 minutes to materialise and it went to Ballinhassig to increase their lead that they never relinquished. It was a frustrating game for all those in attendance with the majority of scores coming from placed balls with no flow to the game owing to the conditions and a very fussy referee.

The final score was Cloyne 1.08 Ballinhassig 16 points.
