Glenville GAA Club Notes

East Cork Division 1 Junior A Football League v Midleton Tuesday February 23rd Venue Fouhys
Glenville 0-8
Midleton 0-5
Our Junior Footballers got off to the Perfect start of the season recording a three point win against a strong Midleton side in the opening round of the Division 1 Football League.  Playing against a strong breeze in the first half it was the opposition who were first out of the traps notching up the first three points. Slowly but finding their form Glenville came into game and points from Noel Cahill, Paudie Cahill and Josh Cooke had the teams level but a Midleton point on the stoke of half time meant they held a narrow lead at the interval 0-4 to 0-3. From the dressing room emerged a new team as we took the game to Midleton and two quick points from Josh and Paudie had us up by a point but straight away at the other end of the field Midleton hit over the equaliser.  Keeper Kieran Cronin was kept quiet for the majority of the match but when he was called into action he pulled off some superb saves and his defence of Colm Murphy, Denis O’Farrell and Neill Meehan insured that nothing would get past them. We finished the half strong with points coming from Brendan Maloney, Niall Griffin and Josh Cooke in the end we ran out three point winners are great start to the year for our junior footballers with this been our second team we really pulled it off against Midleton 1st team. Our next game is tonight March 1st at 7:30 v Cloyne in Fouhys.
East Cork under 21 B Football Championship v Glenabower Rovers
Saturday February 27th Venue Glenville
Glenville 3-14
Glenabower Rovers 1-4
The under 21 Footballers got their championship campaign off to winning start as we easily saw off a dogged Glenabower Rovers side. Both teams played out a hard and physical match but our lads were just too strong on the day as they ran out comfortable winners. We now move onto the quarter finals as we now set up a meeting with Erin’s Own this coming weekend.
Rebel Og Central Premier 2 under 14 Football League v Gabriel Rangers Sunday February 28th
Glenville 1-3
Gabriel Rangers 4-13
Long trip to Ballydehob for the U14 squad on Sunday, Feb 28, where they played their first game of the year against Gabriel Rangers (leaving Glenville at 9.30 am and returning at 5.15 pm). It was a tough game against very good competition of all U14 players for the Rangers, while we relied on a squad made up of U14/U13/U12 players. Gabriel Rangers were very good players on their home very big pitch, made maximum usage of all opportunities and had very few wide’s. Our performance in the second half was a far better performance and we certainly learnt lots from the game which will stand to us over the season. Well done to all the players and the parents that went along to support the team. The boys were a credit to their families in the way they behaved at the game, on the bus and in the restaurant and throughout the long day.
