Bride Rovers GAA notes.

Under 21’s in Replay Action

On this Saturday evening our u21 hurlers make a return to Championship action. We face Russell Rovers in the replay of our first round game. We were ‘haunted’ to get a draw in the first game in Ballynoe two weeks ago. We were behind for the most of the game and in reality played second fiddle to Russell Rovers for most of the hour. We did take a one point lead with just a few minutes remaining but a pointed free saw both teams on 1 9 apiece. There was a long hold up before the drawn game while everyone waited for a referee so hopefully on Saturday evening everything will commence on time. The replay takes place in Lisgoold at 5 o clock so hopefully we will have a big vocal support. Go for it lads.

Minors Beaten.

At Caherlag on last Friday evening our Minor Football team went out of the Championship. It wasn’t much consolation to be told by Cobh afterwards that they wanted to take part at a higher grade but were not left do so! The game was a mis-match with Cobh winning by 5 13 t I 4. Our lads tried hard but the Cobh side with 22 players togged out were much too strong. They now meet Lisgoold in the East Cork Final. Team; T.Buckley, M. Howard, J. Kearney, W. O Leary, B. Collins, E. Murphy, J.Pratt, J. O Sullivan, J.Mannix, G. Healy, F. Collins, D. Lane. Subs; S. O Leary, R. Foley, K. Cahill, P. Dee.

Junior Hurling League.

We had East Cork champions Castlemartyr as visitors in the Junior Hurling League on Saturday evening. After a high scoring game the Reds won by 3 12 to 2 12. Team M. Dooley, W. O Leary, S. Walsh, F. Collins, S. Kearney, L. Forde, J. Pratt, M. Kearney, S. Pratt, J. Mannix, M. Collins, S. Boyce, G. Murphy, D. Dooley.

Subs; M. Howard, K. Cahill, K. Kearney, E. Collins.

No Title for Cork.

The same old story in Croke Park last Sunday as the Cork Football team went under to Kerry in the All Ireland Senior Football Final. It seems that in June, July or August in Killarney or Pairc Ui Chaoimh we are able to get the better of the Kingdom but what ever happens in September they seem to be able to turn the tables on us. Last Sunday the Cork side got off to a dream start scoring 1 3 in the first quarter but that , unfortunately, was as good as it got. We won Div 2 of the National League and the Munster Championship this year but trying to win All Ireland No. 7 is proving to be a major hurdle to overcome for Cork. The players, selectors and backroom team have put in a massive effort this year –probably every bit as much as Kerry, but that elusive title is still evading us.
