Aghada Senior Football Match Report

Senior Football Div 2 League.

Saturday 6th Feb  4pm in Eire Og,

Aghada 3-8  Eire Og 1-16.

We travelled to Ovens again this year for the opener of the Senior League. This was also the first game on Eire Og’s new purposely drained system which our third pitch planning to do the same.The surface was fast from the off. Eire Og started the better and had 1-5 on the board before Pearse opened our scoring with a point from a free. We took awhile for our backs and midfield to get into the game. Our forwards started to trouble Eire Og defence with Cian Fleming and Kevin O Hanlon on the right hand side . John looney Conor O Driscoll on the left with Conail  at full forward really worked well together. Eire Og got three mor points. Pearse at centre forward pushed on and created two more frees which he scored. Good teamwork that started at the back saw a great move end up in the back of the net from Kevin O Hanlon. Pearse converted another free , to leave half time score Aghada 1-4 Eire og 1-8. After half time talk our lads came out playing the better football put Eire Og under pressure for the majority of the second half. Tom O Neill got the first score of the half with a long range point. He was followed by Aaron Stafford with another great point. Eire og got two more points before we were awarded a penalty Which Cian Fleming converted, John Looney added another point. John Connolly replaced Jake O Donoghue and within a few minutes John had the ball over the bar. Ronan Kennedy replaced Ronan Power great to see both Ronan’s back in the green and white jersey all the best to them for the season. Eire Og scored four more points two from frees. Then Conor o Driscoll put the ball in Eire Og’ net for our third goal. Eire Og pushed for the last few minutes and came out winners after a hard fought game. We had good displays all round positive start for the club. Man of the Match goes to Aaron Stafford.
