Registration Day

Registration Day Kick Starts 2016 Campaign

The rain fell, the rugby kept some stuck to the couch, yet the moms and dads and boys and girls came to our Annual Registration Day on Sunday last February 7th. DJ Dave kept the younger folk occupied with music and games downstairs in the halla – in between the games of hurling, soccer and rugby – while upstairs the tea, healthy food (and the odd biscuit) and chat were plentiful as the older generations registered their offspring and themselves for the season ahead. Presents of sliotars and gumshields sent the 12 year olds and under home happy, while new and returning parents had the opportunity to catch up with neighbours, make new acquaintances, and dream of days when the rain might stop falling! One of these days! Thank you to all those who came out to register, and for those who didn’t manage to make it yet, please call to Ursula in the coming days to make sure your boys are fully compliant before the new season commences.

To Sheila Spillane, Killeagh Camogie President, who was honoured with the Evening Echo Hall of Fame Award for 2015 during the week. For a lifetime of unselfish service to Killeagh and Cork camogie, this award is fully merited. Well done Sheila!

To Killeagh Scór Competitors who participated in the Imokilly Scór Finals in Lisgoold on the last day of January. Pauline Meade and Carol Keniry both sang in the Solo Singing competition, with Carol garnering the runner-up spot. Eddie Leahy regaled the audience with his recollection of the epic that was the Tipperary v Cork 1984 Munster Final, and also garnered a runner-up duais. It was our ballad group who hit the headlines on the night, as Pauline, Mary, Teresa, Ann and Jacinta took the honours, singing “Trasna na dTonnta” and “Molly Malone”.  This win qualifies them for the County Final, and perhaps a chance to reprise the success of the Killeagh 1992 Ballad Group of Mary, Muriel, Maureen and Peg who won East Cork, County and Munster Finals and qualified for the All-Ireland Final in Clones. Best wishes ladies!
