Castlelyons GAA Notes

06 January, 2016

“Alan O Regan presents a cheque Pat Collins, winner of our Last Man Standing Draw, also in photo John Healy Chairman and Michael Spillane”.

One Market Leader takes over from another as ZEUS replaces South Coast Logistics.

At our monthly meeting recently the Chairman Mr John Healy outlined how the Clubs Main Sponsor was set to change and gave a special thanks to Mr John O Flynn and South Coast Logistics who sponsored us for the last nine years and had made a huge contribution to the GAA in Castlelyons. All the members were in praise of Mr O Flynn and, indeed the entire family association with the club and wish to thank them sincerely and wish them well in the future as their Company continues to lead the field.

Then our Chairman had pleasure in announcing a new Sponsor, namely ZEUS whose CEO is a Castlelyons man, namely Mr. Brian O Sullivan formerly of Britway and his Dad and Mam, John Joe & Julia O Sullivan still reside at Britway.

Brian has grown the ZEUS Packaging Group since1998 from its base in Dublin and there are now over 235 people employed at sites in the UK, Spain, Poland and China and, of course an office in Little Island. The Company was named as one of Ireland's 'Best Managed' companies in the Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards Programme in 2012.

Zeus Packaging Group is a leading specialist distribution and manufacturing group. Their product offering includes industrial packaging, food & retail packaging alongside health & hygiene products, which is supplied to a variety of industry sectors including grocery, food service and retail, cleaning, pharmaceutical, distribution, manufacturing, agricultural, health care and food processing.

There will be an official launch on a date in time but thanks again to the generosity of Mr. Brian O Sullivan. We should as a community give this company all possible support and being such a large farming are what better way than to buy their Epicrop Balewrap as this give the farmers the latest Balewrap technology, expert advice and after sales service.

New Manager for Intermediate Hurling Team

Mick Spillane has recently accepted and this was ratified at our last meeting as manager of the intermediate team. Mick has vast experience both from his own playing days and recent involvement with successful Under 21 teams. He presently arranging his management team and we wish him the best.

€500 Winner in Cork GAA Clubs Draw

Congrats to Mrs Nora Ryan, Knock, Fermoy winner of €500 in the December Cork GAA Clubs Draw. Dave Hegarty sold the winning ticket and as there are still many months left sure Nora could land the big prize yet. Thanks for your support Nora.

Last Man Standing Draw

The winner of the recent Last Man Standing Draw was Pat Collins Castlelyons and the prize was presented to him on Monday Night.

A special thanks to the initiative shown by Anto and Mike Spillane, Robbie Feeney, Alan O Regan and many other players who drove the Draw which is specific to fund a Gym. This is

an exciting proposal and hopefully will come to fruition as most if not all local clubs have long developed suitable strength and conditioning units for their players.

A Bridge too far for Cork

Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare was the venue for Cork Senior Hurling Team’s first game of 2016 in the Waterford Crystal League versus Clare. Both teams had reshuffled the Management set up for the New Year as Cloyne men Diarmuid ‘the Rock’ O Sullivan and Donal Óg Cusack were on opposite sides this time and it really add a bit of excitement. Clare took the spoils but only just and that was by the only goal of the game 1-13 to 0-13. Cork lined out with a lot of new players on the day and our own Colm Spillane back again this year had a fine game in the full back line.

Scór Sinsir - 2016

This year 2016 we have a once in a century opportunity to take part in many cultural celebrations and the GAA will be taking part in Clár Comórtha Céad Bliain.

Cumann Luthchleas Gael has come a long way and is now at the heart of all parishes and many places worldwide and we actively support Gaeilge, Irish Music, Song and Dance.

We are hoping to make Scór a bit special for 2016 and the Uí Mac Coille Scór Sinsir Finals will be held on Sunday 31st January at Lisgoold. We have a Ballad Group in training and would appreciate a solo singer, dancer and recitation to represent us. So please contact any club member if you would like to take part.
