Junior A Hurling County Final Replay Dungourney 1-21 Cloughduv 0-11

What a performance from the first whistle to the last the lads gave a masterclass of hurling in Pairc Ui Rinn. While it stayed dry overhead underfoot conditions were like a skating rink in parts water splashing as players were running. That makes this performance even more impressive to score 1-21 is amazing in the conditions and still shoot ten wides. From start to finish a hunger was shown fighting tooth and nail for every ball as if their lives depended on it, Hooking, Blocking, harassing not giving a Cloughduv man time or space on the ball.

We played with the aid of the breeze in the first half. Cloughduv opened the scoring after a minute pointing from play, Ryan Denny opened our account from a placed ball. Cloughduv got back in front pointing from play again, Ryan responded with another pointed free. From the resulting puckout Ryan plucked the ball from the sky turned and put it over the bar. Shane Hegarty raised a white flag after good work from Shane Casey, Ryan pointed another free. Niall Motherway operating from centre back surged forward and pointed from distance, Shane Casey got his name on the scoreboard with a point from play. Cloughduv pointed from play, James Leahy pointed after been setup by Jack Griffin. Jack pointed from long range next after some great work by Shane Hegarty, Ryan raised another white flag from a free. Cloughduv added three points from frees before the short whistle Shane Hegarty and Ryan both pointing aswell. Half time score Dungourney 0-12 Cloughduv 0-6.

A perfect start for us in the second half Ryan pointing a free, Cloughduv responding with a point from play. Shane Hegarty let fly on the ground and the ball whizzed over the crossbar , Cloughduv responded again with a point from play. A crucial moment next we gave away a free 20 out in front of our own goals twenty minutes to go and six down Cloughduv went for Goal. The result a save not sure by who Dave Hennessy, James McCarthy and Mark Hegarty all claimed it the main thing it was stopped. We kicked on and got the next two scores Ryan pointing two frees. Cloughduv rattled off three points in three minutes with fifteen to go. Ryan settled the ship pointing another free. Jack raised a white flag after being set up by James Leahy, Ryan tacked on another point from a free. Paudie Harney got his name on the scoresheet pointing from play, Ryan added another from a free. Shane Hegarty put the cherry on top at the end rattling the net after a great Paudie crossfield ball. The final whistle went and the strong support we have had all year erupted after years and years of trying we had finally won the County. Kev Rohan raised the Johnny Quirke cup it was coming back at last.

Dave Hennessy in goals was brilliant puckouts organising the lads through out. The full back line of Eoin Ahern Mark Hegarty and Martin Wall brilliant throughout not giving an inch of room to their men. John Ronayne and James McCarthy on the wings hurled ball all night long Niall Motherway in the centre hoovered up every breaking ball and was immense. Ryan Denny and Bill Ahern did trojan work in the middle of the park. Jack Griffin, James Leahy and Kenneth Kelleher worked tirelessly hooking blocking throughout. Shane Hegarty Shane Casey and Paudie Harney were brilliant inside always threatening the Cloghduv goals. Team Dave Hennessy, Eoin Ahern, Mark Hegarty, Martin Wall, John Ronayne, Niall Motherway(0-1), James McCarthy, Bill Ahern, Ryan Denny(0-12 11f), Jack Griffin(0-2), James Leahy(0-1), Kenneth Kelleher, Shane Hegarty(1-3), Shane Casey(0-1), Paudie Harney(0-1) Subs Steven Hickey, Kevin Kelleher, Kevin Rohan.

The effort put in by all involved paid off the lads who started training way back at the end of last November. All the hard work rolling around in the mud back in January and February paid off. Great credit to the Management team of Brian Ronayne, Aidan Kelleher, Sean Murphy and Michael Ahern for all the hard work and time spent on this time no stone left unturned all year. Dave Fitzmaurice did the physical and had the lads in unbelievable shape. Peter Cody brought great experience and had the lads hurling at another level. Bernard Ahern and Denis Buckner put in great work with water and Sliotars all year. The work the players themselves put in has been something else training diet staying off the drink all the sacrifice worthwhile now.
