Junior A Hurling League Final Dungourney 0-22 Midleton 3-12

A Junior Hurling League title to add to the Championship success after a massive battle against Midleton in Killeagh. Played under lights conditions were good a slight breeze and those in attendance were treated to an enthralling encounter.

Bill Ahern got us off to a perfect start pointing inside the first minute after good work from Jack Griffin. Midleton took over the next five minutes cutting us apart on numerous occasions scoring two goals and two points. Kevin Rohan settled the ship pointing from play and then he set up Jack for his opening point from play. Two Shane Hegarty white flags were replied to with two Midleton points from play. Ryan Denny was deadly accurate from frees throughout this game punishing any Midleton indiscretion and he pointed three frees on the bounce. Midleton got their third goal against the run of play a half block on the shot the ball spun in to the corner of the net. Kenneth Kelleher pointed from play and Ryan from a free, Midleton responded with two pointed frees. Bill Ahern pointed from play to leave us four points in arrears at the short whistle.

Jack got us underway for the second half pointing from distance with Ryan reducing the difference to the minimum with two frees. Midleton responded with a score from play after a quick free. Jack and Niall Motherway points from play brought the game level. Two quick scores from Midleton pushed them back into the lead. Kev reduced the deficit, another quick Midleton free pushed them two in front again. The game was real nip and tuck neither team giving an inch. Shane scored from play Midleton responded from play Jack got his fourth point from long range, Midleton again responded staying two in front. Ryan got his first from play and Bill pointed from play to bring the game level. Time almost up we won a free and Ryan showed nerves of steel to fire over once again. Midleton put pressure on looking for an equalizer but the defense held out for a one point victory. Afterwards Captain Kevin Rohan received the Tom Powell cup another trophy in the bag attention now turns to the County Final Sunday 25th.
