The semi-final v Watergrasshill took place under the Rostellan lights on Wednesday night last 16th Sept before a large crowd.

We started the game brightly enjoying the lion’s share of possession but were finding scores hard to come by with wayward shooting not helping our cause. A goal by Conor O’Lomasney after great work by Mikey Walsh kick started our performance and when Mikey himself scored another goal following a great Paul O’Sullivan run we were looking good.

A typical Watergrasshill response saw them score 3 unanswered frees before half time to close the gap to only 4 points which given our possession should have been greater.

Watergrasshill carried their momentum into the second half and outscored us by 5 points to 1 to level matters. It was tit for tat for the next 20 minutes with points being swapped but with only minutes remaining we found ourselves 2 points in arrears. Showing great character we battled back and 2 Cian Motherway frees levelled matters and sent the game to extra time on a 2.10 to 16 point scoreline.

The first half of extra time saw the sides share 6 points to remain level at the break 2.13 to 19 points. A Cian point at the start of the second half had us back in the lead for the first time since early in the second half but we were dealt a body blow with the concession of a goal from the resultant puck out.

With time running out and bodies tiring we outscored the Hill by 3 points to one to level the game once again, Conor O’Lomasney with the important point from play to leave the final score 2.17 to 1.20 and a replay to come.

Great credit to both teams for refusing to wilt in the face of great pressure.

A County deadline meant the replay of the Junior B hurling championship took place on Saturday morning at 12 noon in Lisgoold.

Playing with a slight wind advantage in the first half Watergrasshill were quicker into their stride than us and lead 5 points to one after 15 minutes, as in the drawn game we were wasteful in front of goal.

A general improvement in our play saw us reduce the gap to 2 points approaching half time 6 points to 4, but while we had a great goal opportunity when Paul O’Sullivan burst through only to be denied by a great block down a similar break at the other end was clinically finished to the net. A further Watergrasshill free put them 6 points to the good approaching half time but 2 points from Cian Motherway closed the gap to a more manageable 4 points.

A goal by Brian Walsh inside the first minute of the second half brought us right back into the game but Watergrasshill repied with a goal of their own following a mix up between goalie and full back line put us on the back foot once again.

Midway through the half following exchanged points we were 5 points adrift and in trouble but credit to the lads again they rallied and scored 4 unanswered points but crucially couldn’t draw level despite some excellent chances.

A one point game entering injury time of which there was 5 minutes due to various second half stoppages but Watergrasshill finished the stronger scoring 2 points from play to finish worthy winners 2.12 to 1.12 and we wish them well in the final v Fr O’Neills.
