East Cork Final 12th September 2015 Dungourney 1-23 St.Itas 2-12

The Jamesey Kelleher Cup is back home after Saturday night in Cloyne, we now look ahead to a County campaign in search of more silverware. First of all great credit to the cloyne club the pitch and facilities were in awesome condition for the game, the rain held off and only a slight wind, conditions were good for hurling.

We got the opening score of the game Man of the Match Ryan Denny pointed a free for his first of eleven points. St.Itas in their first final in their 102 year history replied with a point from play soon after from Sean Supple. Shane Hegarty pointed from play after a good pass from Niall Motherway. Itas were on top for the next five minutes raising five white flags courtesy of Cork Senior Seamus Harnedy two from play and one from a free. Ryan pointed from play to stop the rot, Sean Supple pointed again for Itas to restore their two point lead. Ryan pointed another free and added another point to draw us level from a 65 after Shane Casey had is well struck effort saved. Pedro Geary rattled the net for Itas and Seamus Harnedy pointed again from play for the Seasiders. Ryan scored another free and Shane Hegarty pointed from play to get us back within one. St.Itas Keeper Padraig O’Brien pointed a long range free, the lads started to get motoring a lot more, Ryan pointed another free. Kenneth Kelleher raised a white flag from a difficult angle and first half substitute Jack Griffin pointed nicely after a good offload from Paudie Harney. Half time score Dungourney 0-10 St.Itas 1-7.

Words of Wisdom from the management team at half time worked and the lads came out all guns blazing in the second half. Bill Ahern pointed twice inside the opening ninety seconds from play. Jack Griffin pointed twice over the next ninety seconds the second after a great puckout from Dave Hennessy left Jack in space and he made no mistake. Ryan pointed from play after some good interplay down the right wing with Shane Hegarty, Shane pointed himself next from play giving us a six point lead. Shane Casey goaled next a long range free from Ryan into the square and the deftest of flicks from Shane and the ball was in the back of the net. Itas full forward Eoghan Loughlin got their first score in seventeen minutes a point from play. Ryan and Seamus Harnedy pointed for each side, Ryan pointed from a 65 after Shane Casey was denied another goal terribly unlucky after sending the keeper the wrong way the ball struck his foot. Itas got a goal after a long range free from Ciaran O’Brien went all the way to the net despite a man inside the square obstructing Dave Hennessy the goal stood. Sean Supple pointed for Itas, Ryan pointed a free and Kenneth raised a white flag aswell. Bill Ahern got his third point from play in the second half with Itas replying with two points from play from Alan Loughlin and Darragh O’Brien. Ryan got his eleventh point from a free with Shane Hegarty pointing from play to round off the scoring before the Final whistle went. Brilliant performances all over the pitch I could name 15 Steven Hickey and James Leahy in defense, James McCarthy centre back was awesome given the job of marshalling a cork senior he excelled. Ryan hurled an ocean of ball midfield all night. Shane Hegarty and Shane Casey caused endless problems in attack. Jack Griffin was flying when introduced the warm weather training did him no harm.
Jubilant scenes after a great victory with young and old embracing in the knowledge Jamesey was going Home. Ryan was presented with his Man of the Match award before East Cork Board Chairman Dick Fitzgerald presented Kevin Rohan with Jamesey and he lifted the cup. This great victory down to all the players for all the hard work they put in since last December. Great credit also to the management and backroom team who have invested a lot of time and effort in this year. An awesome victory and Kevin brought Jamesey home to the school in Dungourney where a great crowd gathered to celebrate.
