Golf Society:

Captain 2015: Trish Landers President 2015: Kieran Scully

The society enjoyed another successful outing on Saturday, September 12th. It was held at Cork Golf Club and the many golfers who turned up to play had a really good day at this fantastic venue. It was a beautiful day for golfing considering the poor weather on Friday and the golf course was in pristine condition. The outing was sponsored by Noel Long and Family at Hickey’s Bar, Mount Uniacke. The presentation of prizes took place in front of a large attendance on Saturday night in Hickey’s Bar. The society would like to thank Noel and his Family for their generous sponsorship and valuable support to both the Golf Society and Killeagh GAA Club. Results from the outing were as follows: 1st with 37pts was John Walsh, 2nd with 36pts was Ger Fitzgibbon, 3rd with 35pts was Mike Landers, Best Gross was Ger Ahern, 5th was Kieran Scully with 34pts, 6th was Dominic Fogarty with 33 pts.

U14 Football;

Our U14 footballers played a worthwhile challenge game against near neighbours Fr.O’Neills on Saturday last, Sept 12th. Virtually all the squad turned up with only three of our players unable to take part. Due to an U13 hurling game also being played we used three players from the U15 squad. We played an open game of football as did O’Neills which all led to a very entertaining game. We were very dominant in the first half and scored a couple of goals while restricting our opponents to two points. They came at us in the second half a bit stronger but we upped our performance to deal with them and we were victorious in the end. There were some great displays from all our players throughout the game but worthy of special mention was Cian McDonald. Our captain this year showed pure class in everything he did and also encouraged all those around him at every opportunity. We would like to thank all players for turning up and especially the 15’s: Kieran Daly, Darragh Geary and goalie Olan Hennessey. Also, young Darragh Coleman played in goal for the final ten minutes to give Olan a run at half forward: much appreciated Darragh. Squad for the Game was: Cian McDonald, Olan Hennessey, Daniel Lucey, David Kelly, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Robert Sinclair, Paul Delaney, Kieran Daly, Tommy Noonan, Dara Motherway, Oisin McCarthy, Olan Coleman, Danny Cunningham, Darragh Geary, George Sinclair, Ryan McCarthy,

Olan Broderick, Darragh Coleman and Owen Cosgrove. We have an U14 league game against Aghada in Rostellan on Tuesday night, Sept15th @7.00pm.

Well Done;

Congratulations to Laura Treacy, Hannah Looney and Niamh ni Chaoimh for their involvement with the Cork camogie team who retained the O’Duffy Cup All-Ireland Senior Camogie Title.

Irwin Family Have A Double Celebration In Croke Park

Congratulations to Damien Irwin and his daughter Ciara who had a double celebration in Croke Park on All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final Day last Sunday. Damien was honoured as a member of the Cork Jubilee Senior Hurling Team of 1990 before the senior final commenced, the first Killeagh player to receive this honour. Ciara, who is a very talented footballer and camogie player, was selected to represent the Galway team in the Go Games Exhibition Game at half-time in the minor game, and made an excellent contribution. Something tells me it won’t be Ciara’s last time playing on All-Ireland Final day in Croke Park! The only disappointment on the day for the Irwin clan was that Galway senior hurlers were unable to end their famine and thus Maura’s stoic wait for the holy grail for her native county continues for another year at least. Hope springs eternal!
