Glenville GAA Notes

08 September, 2015

It has been a week of heart break for our under 15 and under 14 footballers as they lost their respective championship Ties. The under 15 were beaten by a point in the county final while the under 14 were beaten by four points in the Championship semi-final against Aghabullogue. The under 16 footballers had a five point win over Father O’Neill’s in the latest round of the league. This week will see the intermediate footballers return back to league action in a must win game away to Kinsale. The under 16 will be hoping to make it into the East Cork Final as they take on Carrigtwohill in the semi-Final. Finally the under 13 footballers will be in action in their last league game of the season. More to come but first here are the latest lotto results.

The Glenville GAA Club Lotto Jackpot now stands at a tidy €5100 as there was no winner from last week’s draw. The winning numbers on the night were 15, 21, 24 and 28. Small Cash Prize winners of €20 were Anthony Purcell, Eugene Buckley, Tom Cashman and Pamela Cahill.

The Glenville under 15 Football Panel that were beaten by Kilmurry on a score line of 4-2 to 0-15 in the County Final.

Rebel OG under 15 B County Football Final v Kilmurry

Venue Ballincollig

Glenville 4-2

Kilmurry 0-15

Glenville hopes of winning a county title were dashed last Saturday afternoon at the hands of Kilmurry when this County final tie was played in the scorching hot temperatures in the Ballincollig venue. On contrast both teams came into the final on great form from their respective win the semi-final. By far this was going to be the biggest test of the year so far as we knew we were up against a strong team. Glenville decided to play against the very soft breeze in the first half which was very nip a tuck in the opening five minutes as the sides were level at 0-2 to 0-2 apiece. There was some day light between the teams as Padraigh O’Leary got in for the opening goal of the game to put Glenville up by three. However a string of unanswered points from Kilmurry had them in the driving seat at the interval as they lead on a score line of 1-2 to 0-7. Our first half points came from Eoin and Sean Desmond. Our full back line had to be alert at all times during the game but Shane O’Regan once again came to rescue to insure that the Kilmurry full forward line would not get in for a goal. The First three scores of the second half went to Kilmurry as they increased their lead out to five points. From the resulting kick out we worked the ball up to Sean Desmond who scored Glenville second goal of the match. Midfielder Timmy Hegarty was on fire as he won a good amount of the possession. The score of the game came from Colin Cronin as his darting solo run from Centre Back all the way up to the twenty one meter line to score a magnificent goal that riffled its way into the back of the net which now meant that Glenville were leading by

a point 3-2 to 0-10. However Kilmurry came forward in waves of attacks and a string of unanswered points had they up by four points with injury time approaching. There was going to be one last twist in the tie as Eoin Desmond was on the receiving end for Rob Mc Kenna long ball as the broke past the Kilmurry defence and buried the ball in the back of the net which now meant there was only a point in it. There was time of one last attack one last chance to force this game into extra time and looked like it was going to happen as Glenville won a free in the dying moments but it was not to be as the resulting free kick was intercepted by a Kilmurry player which meant at the full time whistle it was Kilmurry who took the victory and took the county title for 2015. Heart break for our lads but they can hold their head high on what was a magnificent performance and a super game of Gaelic football. Team that lined out against Kilmurry Niall O’Sullivan, Ciarn O’Leary, Shane O’Regan, Cadan Horgan, Rob Mc Kenna, Colin Cronin, Shane O’Reilly, Padraigh O’Leary, Timmy Hegarty, Evan Lynch, Lee Flannigan, Sean Desmond, Jake O’Brien, Mark O’Riordan and Owen Desmond.

Rebel OG Central Premier 2 under 14 Football Cup semi-final v Aghabullogue Venue Coachfoard

Glenville 2-9

Aghabullogue 4-7

Our under 14 Footballers suffered a four point defeat after a tough and physical match against a strong Aghabullogue side. Conditions on the day were good as we decide to play with the wind in the first half which was very nip and tuck and at the interval there was nothing to separate the teams as it was square at 2-5 apiece. Our First Half points came from Darragh O’Leary and Ger Heffernan the

goal scores were Darragh O’Leary and Sean Desmond. In the second half Aghabullogue stepped up a gear and took control of the game in the end they ran our four point winners. Our second half scores came from Darragh O’Leary, Rob Mc Kenna and Timmy Hegarty. Over all a disappointing result but we look forward to our last league game of the season as we big to book our place in the league semi-final.

Venue Father O’Neill’s

Glenville 2-11

Father O’Neill’s 0-12

Glenville’s under 16 Footballers return to winning way in the league after a five point win against a strong Father O’Neill’s side. Conditions on the day were ideal as we decide to play against the light breeze in the first half but over all our complete dominance in midfield insured that it would be Glenville we would take the league points on this occasion.
