U13 Aghada v Killeagh Imokilly Plate final

On Wednesday the 2nd September all roads lead to Ladysbridge where our U13 Girls contested the Camogie U13 A Imokilly Plate final against Killeagh. It was a lovely mild evening in Castlemartyr and the conditions were perfect for a good game of camogie. The grounds were in excellent condition and the match was played on the new pitch. We already met Killeagh earlier in the competition when we had home advantage and a good result. The match was refereed by Dominic Rooney and commenced on time at 6.30pm.

We scored 1st with an point and then Killeagh opened up out defense and hand passed two goals, we added 2 more points and the score at half time was Killeagh 2-1 to 0-3 Aghada. Their was little between the teams in terms of skill, save that we could not convert our goal chances. The second half started and we took the game to Killeagh with another great point, unfortunately we could not get any goals despite some great efforts from all our players. Killeagh added 2 further handpass goals in the second half to leave the final score 4-4 Killeagh to 0-5 Aghada. Great credit is due to the Aghada girls who battled to the very end. The team was as follows, Chloe McIntyre, Emer Cronin, Rachael Mills, Aine McGrath, Cliona Stafford, Rachael Leahy, Louise Walsh, Saoirse Geary, Mary Leahy, Racheal Barry, Katie Terry, Aine Wallace, Subs, Isobel Kelly, Clare Boylan, Roisin Keane, Aoibhinn Burke, Extended Panel, Ella Lewis, Caoimhe McCarthy, Caoimhe O Carroll, Aisling Gilroy, Aisling Geary, Layla Cummins.

“Come Hurl With Me Programme”

Over the last six weeks some of our parents were trained by an outside coach in the basics of Camogie. This programme was enabled by kind sponsorship from Cork Sports Partnership. Last Saturday this programme was finished with a very enjoyable blitz in Ballincollig. Teams of ten parents and their daughters from Clonakilty, Castlemartyr, Castlelyons, Bishopstown, Rockban and Aghada took part.

In each game the parents played the parents of the other team in a 10 min first half. In the second half the daughters took over and played for 15 min. The craic was mighty and despite predictions to the contrary no parents suffered any injuries. These parents now have a newfound appreciation of the efforts of their daughters on the camogie field.

Thanks to all who made this possible, especially, the hosts Ballincollig, Munsters’s camogie development officer, Ross Corbett and Cork Sports partnership.
