U21 Hurling Championship;

Out interest in this year’s U21 championship came to a disappointing end on Wednesday night last with a defeat to Castlelyons.

While there is no doubt that Castlelyons were the better team and fully deserved to win but it was also our poorest performance of the year.

Playing with the aid of a strong wind Castlelyons were quickly out of the blocks and controlled the first half. A goal on 20 minutes put Castlelyons 1.09 to 5 pts ahead and threatening to run away with the tie, great credit to Cloyne though scoring a goal and 2 points to close the gap. We were dealt a hammer however in first half injury time when we conceded our second goal to leave the half time score 2.12 to 1.07 not an insurmountable deficit considering the strength of the wind.

Dillon Cahill opened our account with a free from the throw in but Castlelyons forwards were always able to answer all of our scores and when they scored 5 unanswered points midway through the half the result was not in doubt.

A Michael Donovan goal put a more respectable look on the scoreboard seeing Castlelyons win out by 2.21 to 2.13.

St Colman’s Minor Hurling

St Colman’s qualified for the final of this year’s Premier 2 hurling final with victory over neighbours Aghada on Sunday.

Colman’s played into the strong wind in the first half and led by 7points at the break 2.04 to 3 points with both goals coming from Josh Beausang .

Aghada began the second half with 3 pointed frees to close the gap but a goal from Ian Cahill settled the nerves.2 further goals from Ian and an Eoghan Cronin effort sealed a very satisfactory 5.08 to 11 points victory.

The final against either Charleville or Ballincollig will take place on September 14th,congratulations to all involved on a great win.
