Castlelyons  1-12        Ballinhassig 4-17

This County Quarter Final match against Ballinhassig, played in Pairc Ui Rinn, turned out very disappointingly with Ballinhassig running out easy winners in the end. Having won our 1st round championship match against Kanturk on May 16th hopes were high heading into this match but everyone knew that we were up against it facing a very strong Ballinhassig team. We started well and won some good ball and took the lead with a 2nd min free. Teams were level after 10 mins at 3 points each with points from A O Sullivan and A Spillane when Ballinhassig got in for their first goal. Ml Spillane and A Spillane both scored points to draw us level before R Bransfield gave us the lead with a good point. Ballinhassig again goaled against the run of play to take the lead and added a few more points to their tally with A Spillane replying with 2 points to leave Ballinhassig leading at half time by 2-06 to 0-09. Ballinhassig started the 2nd half very strongly and scored the first 4 points to take a firm grip on the game and when they added a 3rd goal they had the game won. Our lads , even though outplayed , still tried their best and we had points from J O Leary and A Spillane with a late goal from C Spillane being our last score. Thanks to everyone involved all year from management to players to backroom staff for the effort put in but with 2 league matches still to play and the chance of qualifying for the final still there our season is not over yet.

Castlelyons  1-06  Sarsfields 0-20

We travelled to Rathcormac on Sunday morning to take on Sars in the quarter final of the East Cork Junior B hurling championship. We were tight on numbers for this match having lost some players to the Premier Intermediate team the evening before. We started well and led by 5pt to 1 after 15 mins with points from C McGann, B O Donovan and R O Regan however from here on Sars began to dominate and scored the next 6 points to take a 2 point lead.We got a bit of luck when a long range free from C McGann went straight into Sars net to give us back the lead but Sars scored again to level the match at half time 1-05 to 0-08.

Sars completely dominated the second half and we had no answer to their play as the added on 11 points to their total to run out convincing winners on a score of 1-06 to 0-20. Well done to everyone involved for their effort and commitment all year.
