JB Hurling

Castlelyons  6-18        Killeagh2-10

We played Killeagh in Round 4 of the East Cork JB Hurling Championship in Dungourney on last Monday evening. Conditions were tough on the night with a strong wind blowing directly up the pitch making it very difficult to play against. We won the toss and playing with the wind we took the game to Killeagh from the off scoring with our first attack through R O Regan. More points followed from R Fenton ,M Spillane and A O Regan  as we led by 7 points after 10 mins.A good team move started out of defense by D Sexton resulted in a goal from Ml Spillane to put us in a commanding lead which we added to with points from B O Donovan and Ml Spillane. A ball that broke across the goalmouth was finished to the net by R O Regan and we finished out the half with points from Ml Spillane and C McGann to lead by 2-12 to 0-03.

Second half against the strong wind was tough with Killeagh scoring a few early points to build up momentum and when they added 2 goals our lead was cut to 5 points. Our defense worked very hard against the wind with D Varner, S Fenton and P Mahon putting in a hard hours hurling. We got back on track with points from R Fenton, MJ Dorgan and Ml Spillane and when A O Regan got in for 2 well taken goals we were back in control. MJ Dorgan finished out the scoring with 2 late goals to give us a comfortable win. Well done to everyone  that played and we now advance to the quarter finals where we play Sars.

PI Hurling

Castlelyons  2-18  Fr O Neills  1-21

We played Fr O Neills in Round 11 of the league in Castlelyons on Saturday night last. With the championship match against Ballinhassig coming up in 2 weeks time a good performance was important. We started well and took the game to Fr O Neills with some good interplay between backs and forwards resulting in points from A Spillane, A O Sullivan, R Feeney and C Spillane to take an early lead. P Mahon and R Bransfield added more points to maintain our lead and a goal  by A Spillane gave us a 4 point cushion at half time to lead by 1-10 to 0-09

Fr O Neills got an early goal in the second half to level the match with there being only a score between the sides for the rest of the half.We had points from A O Sullivan, J O Leary and R Bransfield to maintain our lead but each time we allowed Fr O Neills back into the match through the concession of easy frees. We added points from A Spillane and S Moroney and a goal from a penalty by A Spillane extended our lead but we again conceded frees for Fr O Neills to claw back our lead and level the match at the end. A good performance and great effort by all that played but disappointing result with the loss of a league point.
