U21 Hurling;

We safely negotiated round one of the U21 hurling championship with an easy win over a spirited Cobh outfit in Shanagarry on Monday 27th July.

We started well against a very strong wind and were first to score when Nicky Costine finished expertly to the net with an overhead pull.

On top all over the field we continued to pile on the pressure and further goals from Nicky and Ian Cahill had us comfortably ahead at half time 3.05 to 7 pts with all of Cobh’s scores coming from placed balls.

A Chris Smith goal from the throw in ended the game as a contest and we scored some fine points to run out winners 4.19 to 7 points.

We now go on to play Erin’s Own in round 2 who overcame Aghada in round 1.

Intermediate Hurling;

We successfully progressed to the Quarter finals with a very good win against Carrigaline in difficult conditions in Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday last.

A very strong wind blew down to the Boreenamanna road end and having won the toss we elected to play against the elements.

A Diarmuid O’Sullivan free and Paudie from play had us ahead early on but 2 Carrigaline frees pegged us back. A Diarmuid 65 was cancelled out by another Carrigaline free.

The first goal of the game came our way when an excellent passing movement between Maurice Lynch,Paudie and Ian Cahill saw Keith Dennehy finish excellently to the net.

The work rate, closing down and hooking and blocking was very evident at this stage and the decision to play Diarmuid in a withdrawn role was having the desired effect. We closed out the half with 3 Diarmuid frees who was making light of the wind and an excellent team point finished by Ian to lead 1.07 to 6 pts at the half time whistle.

Carrigaline were first to score in the second half with a pointed free but 3 points from play from Keith, Ashley Walsh and Paudie has the lead out to 6 points.

Carrigaline then had a spell where they outscored us by 3 points to one to reduce the lead to 4 points. An Ian Cahill scrambled goal relieved the pressure to which Carrigaline responded with appointed free.Carrigaline now had a lot of players pushed on to our half leaving a lot of room in their half back line which lead to Paudie expertly turning his man on the 45 before finishing confidently to the net to put the icing on a good win. The resultant

puck out was intercepted and Keith goaled finishing the keepers knockdown to the net to put the cherry on the aforementioned icing.

A Carrigaline point from play closed the scoring on what was a very satisfactory win with all players giving their all to the cause, next up is a quarter final against Mallow or Watergrasshill in late August.
