Aghada GAA Notes

27 July, 2015

Minor Football Premier 1 Championship.

Tuesday 21st July in Dunmanway.

Aghada 6-12 Beara 1-8.

What can I say unreal display of football in Dunmanway on Tuesday evening given by a bunch of highly dedicated lads who give it their all. I was a proud Aghada man to witness this outstanding performance. The last time some of these lads played Beara was at U14 level which Beara won well but it was payback time and the result was reversed. From the start we meant business and Aaron Berry had Beara net rattled within minutes. Then Matthew kidney got in on the act with a well taken point. Beara went up field and got their first score a point. Daniel Creedon and Kevin O Hanlon then followed with a point each before Beara got their goal. The very talented and man Of the match Jack Farmer ripped through the Beara team to put Aaron berry in for his second goal. Kevin O Hanlon, Aaron Berry Matthew Kidney and Jack Farmer got next scores all points. Jack Farmer then opened up their defence again put two balls in Beara’s net. They added two more points. Before Aaron Berry scored our last point of the half to leave half time score Aghada 4-8 Beara 1-3.. The second half saw Matthew Kidney hit the back of net with a looping shot over the keeper. Then score of the match came from Kevin O Hanlon (Santa Ponsa man ) with a rocket of a shot that shook the goals. More Points came from Luke O Connell , Daniel Creedon ,Kevin O Hanlon and Aaron Berry. Our six backs were unbreakable and stood up well all night led by our captain Mark Healy at fullback. He was supported by Aaron Butler who had a fine game. Marcus Leahy very solid. The half back line of Jack McDonnell who always plays a simple game. Edward Leahy at centre and Kyle O Shea on the other wing were outstanding. Midfielders Charlie Terry and Jordan Tynan contested well and put in a good shift. The forwards scored 6-10 from play between them which summarises how well they work together. Two points from frees came from Aaron Berry and Daniel Creedon.Kalen O Donoghue broke up a lot of play which stopped them getting out of their half. But at the other end at number one saw Ciaran O Shea giving his best performance yet between the posts this man never stops talking and organising. So its well done to all involved. Managment and crew, Conor, Paul, Richard. Gerard, and Brendan,Next up is Nemo in quarter final.St Finbarrs wait the winners. Douglas and Carrigaline make up the other semi-final.

u8 football blitz held in Aghada last Saturday 18th July. We welcomed over 48 teams from all over Cork. As always, Aghada were competitive in all their matches with some great skill on display. These events can’t go ahead without the support of parents and the club, and a big thank you goes out to all those who came down early to assist with the car parking and those parents who helped out in the kitchen.

Aghada Juvenile GAA Report

Summer Clean Up in Rostellan:

Aghada GAA pitch got a serious over-haul during the week-end with the local GAA members and supporters giving of their time and talents to transform our great amenities. With the paint brush, the chainsaw, mower, strimmer, welder and many more tools put into action, the visitors to our pitches will be very impressed with the great community involvement!! Thanks to Conor and Martin who coordinated the jobs allocation and to everyone that helped in anyway

Cul Camp Fever:

With over 130 juveniles registered to take part in this year’s Aghada GAA/Kellogg’s Fun Cul Camp, the scene is set to provide a week of fun and games to all involved. We hope to introduce rounders’/handball as an additional GAA sport during our sport event.

Monster U8 Football Blitz:

On Saturday 18th of July, Aghada GAA hosted a Monster U8 Football Blitz and welcomed 48 clubs to Rostellan for a very entertaining cluster of matches. As always Aghada were very competitive in all their matches with some great skill on display. These events can’t be held without the support of the parents and the members of Aghada GAA Club who help with the car park duties and the cuppa/catering which is very much appreciated.

We would like to welcome all over 16 members to consider attending a referee’s course to assist with the Club Monster Blitz. Please forward your name to Reece 083-4459551.

Well done to Aghada Minor Football Team and mentors who advance to the next round of this year championship as they had a very impressive win over Beara in their recent game.

Our Minor Hurlers are in championship action on Thursday evening in Cobh as they take on Bishopstown in this big decider.

U13 Imokilly League

On Tuesday 21st July we travelled to Sarsfields for our third league match. While our U13girls gave it their all it was a stronger Sarfields team who won on the day.

Team: A McGrath, M Leahy, K Terry, E Cronin, C Stafford, C McIntyre, I Kelly, S Geary, L.Walsh, A. Burke, A Wallace, R Mills. Subs: L Cummins, E Lewis, C O'Carroll, A Gilroy

Junior Camogie Championship

Aghada play a fancied Sarsfields team in Rostellan on Wednesday last 22nd July. This was the first championship game for our team. From the off Sars took the game to our girls, this early pressure lead to a goal. However our girls dug in and restricted Sars on the scoreboard for a while. We were finding it hard to get out of our half and we lost a couple of players to injury. Gradually Sars built up a lead in the run into half time. An improved performance from our girls in the second half restricted the Sars forwards scoring. The dissapointing aspect was our failure to take our scoring chances. Our girls are showing a steady improvement but Sars showed that their girls have many more years of experience playing camogie. Our next championship game is away to Kilbritain/Timoleague on Tues evening.

Team: V Terry, Z Cashman, C Day, S Curtin, A Bennett, E Terry, G. Lafferty, C Moran, A Horgan, C McGrath, A Quirke, O Greene, U Day, C Dixey, K Ring. Subs L McIntyre Cpt, K O Hanlon, K Walsh, M Rutledge, N Fitzpatrick. Other panelists unavailable on the night; D Dunlea, A Crowley, S Walsh, J Moynihan, S Bawden, N O Shea, J Lasbury.
