Intermediate Hurling;

The Intermediate hurlers played 2 challenge games last week as they continue their championship preparations.

On Tuesday night we crossed into Waterford to take on senior outfit Abbeyside who are coached by well known Midleton man Sean O’Brien.

Fielding a team short a few regulars it was still a very entertaining and worthwhile game with honours even at full time. Cloyne 2.12 Abbeyside 18 pts.

We played with wind advantage in the first half and lead by 4 points at the interval 1.09 to 8 points the goal coming from Diarmuid O’Sullivan.

Abbeyside with wind advantage in the second half didn’t take long to get their noses in front with some excellent points, but with our backs in fine form and a second Diarmuid goal closed the gap to the minimum with time almost up.

The returned exile Morry Lynch popped up with the equalising score on full time having being introduced as a second half substitute.

Our thanks to Abbeyside for hosting the game and we wish them well in the Waterford Senior championship for 2015.

The second game was on Friday night when we travelled to Church road to take on Blackrock.

Although giving players a game that hadn’t featured on Tuesday night we didn’t perform to the standards required and were well beaten on the night by a well oiled Blackrock team.

The final score was Blackrock 28pts Cloyne 1.12 with Ian Cahill our goal scorer.

InterCounty Hurling;

Congratulations to Cork who overcame Clare in round 2 of the qualifiers in Thurles on Saturday night. A game that was in the balance with 10 minutes to Cork but we finished well scoring the last 5 unanswered points the last of which was scored by Paudie O’Sullivan to run out deserving winners 20 pts to 17.

Next up is a quarter final against Galway on July 26th most likely back in Thurles.

Fixtures;

The Cork victory now means our Intermediate championship game v Carrigaline will more than likely be played on the August bank holiday week-end.
