Intermediate Hurling Championship;

It mightn’t have been the most stylish of performances or games to watch but there was no doubting the significance of our victory over Inniscarra in round 2 of the championship.

The immediate reward is passage into round 4 of the championship but preserving our premier intermediate status and the pressure release that brings is the most important part of the victory.

We started the game very sluggishly and playing against the stiff wind we quickly found ourselves 5 points to nil behind. Gradually we began to get a foothold in the game and 3 Diarmuid O’Sullivan frees and an Ashley Walsh point from play reduced the gap to the minimum.

3 Inniscarra points from play and 2 Paudie O’Sullivan frees closed the scoring leaving Inniscarra 2 points to the good at half time 8 points to 6.A two point lead certainly didn’t look insurmountable given the strength of the wind.

Inniscarra were quickly out of the blocks in the second half scoring the first 4 points from play and were full value for their lead as they were first to all the breaks especially around their half back line. Ashley Walsh responded with a fine point from play

Inniscarra continued their dominance with the next 2 points again from play and when Paudie opened his account from play we found ourselves 6 points behind 14 points to 8.

A few positional switches and the introduction of Dillon Cahill brought about an improvement in our play scoring 1.05 without reply, 4 Sully frees, Colm O’Sullivan from play and Chris Smith finally finishing a goalmouth scramble to the net.

Inniscarra stopped the bleeding with a point from play their first score in some 20 minutes and 2 excellent points from the hardworking Ashley Walsh and a cheeky overhead flick from Dillon Cahill sealed a very important victory.
