Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship R2

Castlemartyr 2-17 Aghabullogue 0-07

Castlemartyr got their intermediate championship campaign back on track after a comprehensive victory over Aghabullogue in Mayfield on Saturday evening. Castlemartyr dominate the game from start to finish and never allowed Aghabullogue get any momentum. After 12 minutes we were 7 points to 2 in front with Barry Lawton causing the Aghabullogue defense all sorts of problem at full forward, registering out first 4 points. By half time we had opened up a 7 point lead on a score of 11 points to 4.

After 11 minutes of the second half we killed the game off as a contest when we twice rattled the Aghabullogue net. First Barry Lawton was fouled inside the large square and stood up himself to score the penalty. A minute later, Cian Haines broke onto a loose ball and finished in style to the top corner to open up a 14 point lead. From here until the end the game petered out became a little scrappy but Castlemartyr won’t mind as we progress safely to round 4.

On the night the backs played great as a unit with Cahal Martin again impressing at corner back, while Adrian Bowens was excellent at center back. Upfront, Barry Lawton was the standout performer, finishing with 1-08 to his name.
