Lisgoold GAA Notes

27 May, 2015

Junior Hurling Division Four

Lisgoold 0-7 (7)

Watergrasshill 6-20 (38)

At Watergrasshill

20th of May 2015

As the score line suggests, our second string didn’t have much of a chance in this encounter. Although there were some positives with good performances from Barry Ahern, John O’Shea, Ryan Hogan and Ciaran O’Shea, The ‘hill’ were much too strong. Kyle Devine’s point was the highlight in a bleek first half. Afterwards it only improved slightly but in fairness a lot of young players were playing in this squad and it’s a learning curve for these young players. So keep your heads up lads, your day will come.

Junior Hurling Division One

Lisgoold 1-19 (22)

Sarsfields 2-26 (32)

At Riverstown

22nd of May 2015

Lisgoold lost out on two points in their third outing of the hurling league, in what was a classic shoot-out. To be honest this sarsfields team laid out a marker for everyone to see and will be a force in this year’s championship. The scoring on both sides was fantastic and we had some great performances with keeper Ciaran (who got three white flags), John Cashman, John Cronin and Bryan O’Sullivan rising to the occasion. Sars seems to dominate this match from start to finish but Lisgoold were always at their tails and it was until the last ten minutes that fitness clicked in, they pulled away. In truth, there was no shame in losing this match and also the fact they racked up 1-19 bodes well for the squad. There are plenty of areas to work on, and a lot of positives to be taken from this match considering the way they played. If they want to be seen as contenders for this crown however, they must beat the best and their aim should be maintaining a standard like they reached in this encounter. Although defeat was handed out here on this occasion, with more effort put in on the training fields a good championship run is not far from reach for this squad.

Junior Hurling Division One

Lisgoold 1-16 (19)

Erins Own 1-18 (21)

At Caherlag

25th of May 2015

Frustration was felt leaving Caherlag as Lisgoold threw away two points in this league encounter. To their credit, even though they were down about six players they put out a fine spirited, battling performance against the hosts. We had a great start when Ciaran O’Se, Jer O’Connell and John Cashman scored our first few points, with the latter raising the green flag early. This coupled with Cian Scannell, Bryan O’Sullivan and Kieran Cashman performing well, we were doing fine, even our custodian Ciaran was chipping in with a few scores to aid the teams cause. In the first half, points were traded and we had to be on our toes as Erins own were a constant threat at our goals, but we ended ahead, 1-8 to 0-7 at the short-whistle.

Our keeper Ciaran was alert straight after the start of the second half as Erins Own should have got a goal but Ciaran pulled off a smart save. Scores were traded through out as we were in for a right battle. John Cashman and Jamie woods kept the score ticking over and with the help of the quickness of Ryan Hogan kept Lisgoold ahead. They key moment came with a minute remaining with the scores level (1-15 to 0-18) A loose pass from our defence was pounced on by the Erins Own forwards who raised the green flag. This was a sucker punch; however we had a chance to redeem the error with a twenty-five yard free but could only get a minor. This was a chance lost to make up some ground on the leading pack in the table. Had we a stronger squad available perhaps a different result might have ensured but it’s this score that will stand. Time will tell if this result will prove costly come the business end of the league.
