Aghada GAA Notes

25 May, 2015

For the second year in a row Aghada qualified for the semi final of the Cork County u21 A Football Championship when they accounted for the Duhallow Champions in Coachford last Sat night.

Straight from the throw in Newmarket's best forward Dan Culloty had the ball over the bar after 15 seconds of play. From the kick out Aghada worked the ball up the field were John Looney duly obliged but within minutes Culloty had Emmet's ahead again.

Aghada started to settle but were guilty of wayward shooting but as we left the opening quarter the Seasiders led by 0-5 to Emmett's 0-2. The hard working Stephen Murphy added another Aghada point on the 18th m in answer to one from Emmett's. For the next ten minutes it was stalemate until John Looney converted a placed ball. Immediately Culloty replied with two minors before a very impressive Aaron Stafford hit a beauty just as the short whistle sounded the see Aghada lead at the brake by 0-8 to 0-5.

On resuming Emmett's hit two on the bounce to make it a one point game again.  Stafford and Kevin O'Hanlon pushed Aghada clear again but it was short lived as Culloty who caused the Seasiders all kinds of trouble as Emmett's hit two in row.

Then as we entered the last quarter Aghada hit top gear and in a magical three minute spell but the game to bed scoring 1-3 with the goal coming from the boot of Kevin O'Hanlon.

Newmarket never gave up but Aghada moved Ed Leahy on Culloty and suddenly their scoring treat was curtailed. As the game played out Culloty received a black card for a foul on Jack Farmer who had a brilliant hour.

This was a very impressive performance from the East Cork Champions as Aaron Stafford, Conor O' Driscoll, Stephen Murphy showed well but they were well assisted by the minor contingent of Ed Leahy, John Looney, Aaron Berry, Cein O'Driscoll, Jordan Tynan, Kevin O' Hanlon and Mark Healy.
