Bride Rovers GAA Club Notes.

Senior Championship on Saturday night.

It's Cork County Senior Hurling Championship time once more and for the twelfth season in a row the Green White and Gold of Bride Rovers will be proudly seen in what is known as the Little All Ireland Championship. It's a very hard championship to win, one of the most competitive in the Country. Sixteen club teams plus Divisional sides and UCC and CIT will at this stage in the month of may all fancy their chances of lifting the Sean Og Murphy Cup next October. We reached the Final in 2008, losing to Sars by a single point. Since then we've had some ups and downs but have managed to compete at this level fairly well. After two defeats last year we beat Courcey Rovers but lost out in the next round to Na Piarsaigh. This year we again face a city side, Bishopstown who were beaten finalists in recent years. We met them in Riverstown a few years back and we were lucky to escape with a draw. In the replay we made no mistake and had a good win. Those two games have little relevance to our clash on Saturday evening at Pairc Ui Rinn as our side is a very much changed team this year. Under manager Joe Delaney and his backroom team a team with a lot of young players will represent the club. We have had a fantastic bunch of players over the last decade and now the mantle is passing to a new generation of hurlers. We still have a core of very experienced players and hopefully these lads can lead the way and show determination and leadership for the players who are new to senior hurling. We have a few absentees because of long term injuries but this happens to all clubs -and counties too, as we saw this week. We wish the team al the very best, The Bishopstown team with several Cork players will be the hottest of favourites but hopefully our lads will put on a display of hurling befitting our proud tradition. The throw in time on Saturday night is 7.30pm
