Fe14 Premier 2 Hurling Championship. Fr O'Neills 0:13 v Na Piarsaigh 3:09. Caherlag was the venue for this first round tie played on Sat. Last. Having won the toss we played with the aid of the wind in the first half. Na Piarsaigh were to open the scoring with a point this was quickly followed with points from David O'Neill, John Millerick, and a point from Brian Coleman. Na Piarsaigh again replied with a couple of more points but we were to finish the half the stronger and we went into the break with a eight point to four point lead. A feature of the first half was a fine save by Eoin Bernard in goal. We wondered at half time was this enough of a lead going in to the second half against a strong wind. We dominated the opening of the second half but we failed to register a score in the opening ten minutes. Na Piarsaigh rallied with two quick goals and two points which gave them a four point lead.We never gave up and points from David and John was not enough with time running out. Although we lost by five points all the players showed plenty skill and spirit throughout. Their is no backdoor in this championship and now we go into a shield competition which will go ahead in a couple of weeks. One felt at the start of the year Premier 2 might be a step too far for this group but with all the work being put in we seemed to have upped our performances so far. There are plenty signs that this team can go on and do very well in the league. Sam Shanahan cried off on the day with illness im sure he will be back soon in his customary fullback position.
