News
With the excesses of Christmas now well and truly behind us, and after reflecting on a great 2008, Lisgoold GAA Club will look forward to 2009 with great enthusiasm and vigour. On this note we would like to wish all our readers a happy new year. All players have returned to the field with an abundance of energy borne of now playing A grade Hurling and Football, and of rejuvenated hunger for the season ahead. Pre-season attendances at training are strong, and, although at early stages, seems to be going well so far.

The draws for the East Cork Championships will take place soon and we wait anxiously as to who will our opponents be in A and B grade Football and Hurling for the coming year. But before we divulge into Season 2009, we still a small matter of competing for Munster honours. As we will try to attempt to follow our fellow cork clubs, Blarney and Dripsey by bringing a Munster Title back to leeside and more importantly to the barony of Imokilly. Lisgoold will engage in another Cork/Kerry Battle, (Not football now, but Hurling, which may disappoint some of the football supporters within the parish) as the men from the little village will go on head to head with St.Brendans of Kerry in the Munster Junior B Hurling Quarter-Final in Raheenagh (Limerick) Sunday 11thJanuary 2:30pm.

Poc Fada
With many people stuffed with the turkey and ham, (or in some households, goose and duck) and after watching the festive show of King Kong from the night before, a great turnout was at present at Leamlara Cross as Lisgoold GAA Club held the annual Long Puck on St. Stephens’ Day. This event took place on a cold, brisk, but fresh morning, in which a great day out was had by all. The Long Puck, which is used as a fundraiser for the juvenile club, was deemed by many to be a great success as over 50 teams participated along the traditional route of Leamlara Cross to the Club Gates. Refreshments were made available at the end of the course for our competitors who competed with great spirit and festive cheer. In the end, the winning team consisted of Paul Whelan, Sean Whelan and Tom Howard. Well done lads on winning this year’s Poc Fada. Congratulations also to everyone for turning out and, more importantly raising money for the extremely active juvenile club.
