Aghada 2-16 Grenagh 0-11.

This was a good all-round performance with everyone fighting for championship places which take place in Ballygarvan on Sunday 17th May against Barryroe. The high wind conditions did not favour the game. We started very fast with 2-6 on the board after 12mins.Goals coming from John Looney and Tim Hartnett.Points from Daniel Creedon,(0-1) Paudi Wall (0-2) Kevin O Hanlon(0-1) John Looney(0-2)The half time score Aghada 2-11. Grenagh 0-2 .

The wind played a big part in this game making it very hard to play against, Most of Grenaghs scores came from frees by Cork legend Tom Kenny who use to give coaching sessions to our Juveniles over the years. It is amazing that some of these juveniles were playing against him today Time flys. This was a good work out and will help with the preparation for next week. So back training Tuesday night.

Aghada U8’s and U7’s hosted a football blitz in Rostellan on Saturday 9th. The event was a huge success, helped in no small part by the glorious sunshine.

With over 48 teams taking part, Aghada were again in the lucky position of being able to field three teams.

Mentors on the day Declan Devoy, Conor O'Brien, Anthony Oosthuizen, John Murphy, Michael Lewis, Alan Devoy and Mark White. Both u8 teams faced some challenging matches, and despite coming under severe pressure in some of the games the boys pulled together as a team and there were some magnificent performances.

Our u7s played Fr. O’Neils and Glanmire with coaches attempting to reign in the players enthusiasm to contest every ball.  Thankfully the players maintained their discipline and held positions, allowing them take advantage of some great hurling ability.  Both these games were a great spectacle for the fans, with some excellent skills on display from all teams.  The matches were competitive and gave everyone a chance to see how these players have developed in the few weeks since training recommenced.  Special mention goes to Jack Mulcahy and Alex Buckley who played a half each for a Fr. O’Neils, ensuring no players had to stay on the line as substitutes.

Thanks to Sean Crowley GDA for organising another successful event and also to the legion of parents who provided food and helped out in the kitchen and with the clean up, and with the parking and stewarding.  We are reliably informed that the scramble for treats is where the gumshields were really required!

Overall the teams mentors were delighted with the skills on display and the team commitment from the players.  The whole event reflected fantastically on Aghada as a club and a community, with many positive comments being passed by visiting teams about the facilities and the welcome. The future is looking bright for Aghada football!

Under 13 B Football League, Monday 4th May

Aghada 4-06 Whitescross 4-08

Aghada had their 2nd outing with their 3rd fixture( the second game was not played)  in the u13 grade on a clear Monday evening in Rostellan.

Aghada started well with plenty of attacking play and chances were aplenty. Eoin Motherway opened the scoring with a point and Scott Whyte continued his probing runs from the right flank of the attack and through the middle. He could have been more selfish and gone for scores himself but he offloaded and the chances came to nothing. The defence was strong with Lachlan Greig and Aidan Slye keeping Whites cross at bay while Sean Og O Keefe battled hard against anything that was thrown at him.

Aghada did goal through Michael Stafford, Neil Cunningham and BenWalsh but Whitescross made a few switches and came into the game more and more .Disaster then struck for Aghada when Scott first went off with a shoulder injury- replaced by Conall Rooney with Michael going to 14, and then Lachlan with a finger injury was replaced by Sean O Callaghan. Luckily Mary O Shea was on hand to look after the lads with some First Aid, and Dr Diarmuid Quinlan was on hand with the visitors and assisted also;  at half-time Aghada had a slender lead.Donagh Collins replaced Dan Leahy and  Jack Colbert replaced Barra White and he worked up and down the wing.

The enforced changes seemed to have an effect and Whitescross  gradually started to build up a lead. Shane Lewis and Danny McCarthy took up positions in the full forward line but were unable to get the scores to turn it around.

Next up is Aghinagh in a few weeks.

Team: John Manning; Dan Leahy & Seamus Maloney; Sean Og O Keeffe, Lachlan Greig & Aidan Slye; Michael Stafford & Neil Cunningham; Barra White & Eoin Motherway; Ben Walsh, Scott Whyte & Sean O Donnell.

Subs all used: Conall Rooney, Sean O Callaghan,Jack Colbert,Donagh Collins, Thomas Land, Dan McCarthy, Shane Lewis
