Junior Hurling League Division 1 Sunday 10th May

Dungourney 1-13 Carrignavar 0-8

A good win for the hurlers played in Dungourney, a swirling breeze made it difficult for the players. Minus players due to injuries and studies it was a good chance for others to stake their claim for a starting spot. We played with the breeze in the first half. Carrignavar were first to score, two points from play. Shane Hegarty scored our first point from a free after Sean Hegarty was fouled, Shane pointed from play soon after. A pointed free from Carrig pushed them ahead, Niall Motherway opened his account with a point from play. Shane Casey goaled after some good play from Sean, Shane C pointed from a free and then got a point from play. Shane Hegarty added two more points from play both from Jack Griffin assists. Carrignavar got their fourth point and fifth points from a free and 65, James Leahy raising a white flag in between those scores. Half time score Dungourney 1-8 Carrignavar 0-5.,

Shane Hegarty opened the scoring with a point from play in the second half, Niall getting his second soon after. Shane H got another from a free, Carrignavar got the next two points of the game. Shane H got another two points from play with Carrignavar getting their final score as well. A final score of 1-13 to 0-8. A good 2nd win for the lads in the league. Kevin Kelleher very impressive stepping in goals for the day dealing expertly with anything that came his way, the other goalies will be watching their backs. Eoin Ahern, John Ronayne and Kevin Rohan impressing in defence. Martin Wall put in a fine performance at midfield. Jack Griffin caught oceans of ball at wing forward, Shane Hegarty scored some fine points and James Leahy was impressive at full forward. Junior Hurling League Division 3

Dungourney 3-14 Russell Rovers 0-12

A first win for our second hurling team on Wednesday night in Shanagarry, a cold night by the sea and both teams played some fine hurling. Not one for pointing out the obvious, goals win games and we got three, the defence kept Rovers out. Playing with a breeze Russell Rovers got the first point with Martin Wall firing over our first from play. Rovers got two points, frees from John Ronayne and Kevin Kelleher brought us back level. Next came our first goal of the game a high ball into the square by John, Willie O’Neill the quickest to react and he finished to the net. Rovers got 4 points on the spin with a point from Shay O’Gorman drawing us level on 20 minutes. Sean Hegarty got a beauty of a point after fielding a high ball. As a young fella you were always told never give up on a ball, this was never more evident than for our second goal, a ball broke to their keeper just as he looked to clear Kevin Kelleher got the hurl in to block and he finished to the empty net. Sean got another point from play and Russell Rovers got another point as well to round out the first half. Dungourney 2-6 Russell Rovers 0-8.

Our 3rd goal came not long after the restart another high ball into the full forward line Willie was the quickest to react again and like before he rattled the net.  Russell Rovers got a point from play, Martin fielded a high ball and slotted over. Shay added two more to our total from frees, Kevin pointed from a free as well to add another point. Rovers pointed twice Martin got his third from play. Kevin added two more points from frees with Rovers getting a point of their own. Sean added the final score of the game a point from a free.
