Junior ‘B’ Football Q-Final

Lisgoold 0-6 (6)

Aghada 2-13 (19)

At Ballinacurra

1st of May 2015

Lisgoold bowed out at the quarter-finals stage (it also doubled up as an league encounter) but with their heads held high with a fine spirited, battling performance against Aghada. We seemed to be up against it as our near neighbours soared to a 0-3 to 0-1 lead after 16 minutes. It seemed we were in for a long day in the office. However, the response given was simply fantastic. Our intensity increased in defence as Cian Scannell, Seamus McSweeney and Brian O’Leary upped their game, with Kevin Shea and Dave Barry playing a roaming role coupled with Jer & Moss at the forward line, Lisgoold reeled in Aghada with four points of their own, one of them a fantastic score by Coamhan O'Shea, Aghada scraped ahead though with a late free to leave it 0-6 to 0-5 to them at the short-whistle.

The second half saw Lisgoold, against the breeze, put up a very determined display. Aghada strangely though, did not use their wind advantage in the half for a good while and elected for a more cautious defensive approach. This ensured that the hardy souls that turned up to the Ballinacurra venue were treated to a decent contest. However the turning point came with 14 minutes to go as long cross-field ball launched into our defence caused great confusion and allowed Aghada to get their first goal to make it 1-9 to 0-6. The match could have been well and truly over as they created five or six more chances but our keeper Barry Ahern (who in truth was the best player on the pitch) saved superbly. Aghada began to pull away, but in fairness our lads we had to put up with an experienced Aghada side as they emptied their bench. There was nothing to be ashamed about and the squad and management can hold their heads high as they have done themselves proud.
