Junior Football Championship Quarter Final

Dungourney 0-10 Glenbower Rovers 0-6

The Lads have made it through to the Semi Finals of the Football Championship for the second time after a hard fought win over Glenbower Rovers. The game was played in Copperally Youghal with the pitch in excellent condition, a strong gale favoured us in the first half. A slow start with both teams cancelling each other out, Brian Ahearne got our first score a pointed free after a Sean Hegarty block led to Shane Hegarty being fouled. Brian got two more points from frees, one a monster from beyond the 45. Glenbower got their first point soon after, Captain Eoin Ahern playing at corner back made a great forward run and after a quick exchange of passes with Colin Fitzpatrick he slotted over nicely. Shane Hegarty raised a white flag from a James McCarthy pass, James got his name on the scoresheet pointing from play on twenty eight minutes. Bill Ahern rounded of the scoring in the first half with his first point leaving us six points ahead at the short whistle.

Against the wind in the second half we got the perfect start Brian firing over another free. Glenbower got the next two points from play, Brian replied with a free to restore the six point lead. The game got very physical with a lot of big hits and late tackles going in. Glenbower got three more points to cut our lead to three points. The lads really got stuck like starved lions fighting for every break as if their lives depended on it, they were not going to let the game slip. The lads hard work paid off with James getting his second point from play and extended the lead to four points and finished the game out to win by four. This was a massive win for us the players showed great heart and battled through a very tough game. Great credit to the panel of players and the management team of Christy, Jim, Liam and Dave they are now through to a semi final later in the year against Fr O’Neills.
