News

IF you were watching TG4 over the weekend you would have seen a great spectacle for our games, as Portuma took on Ballyhale Shamrocks also De le Salle took on the men from Crushdall in the All-Ireland Club Hurling Semi-Finals. These games provided a great spectacle and also showed how good hurling can be played and we can hope this, is a taste of what the season ahead will be. Also, what slipped by with very little notice from the media, was the Ashbourne Cup Finals (3rd Level Colleges Camogie) which were hosted by UCC. In which, East Cork was heavily represented with players from Dungourney, St.Catherines, Watergrasshill, Youghal and Carrignavar. We would like to congratulate these players on representing their respective colleges and (more importantly) East Cork as they played with great skill and class. Also our congratulations to WIT who won the Championship, and also to NUIG who won the Shield Competition.

As for CLCG Lisgoold, A bad week was had by all, as the Second team crashed to two defeats in the League and the 1stteam preparations were hampered by the lack of match practise over the weekend. With the championship fast approaching, the management must be anxious to get some proper game time as our championship clash against Cobh looms ever closer. Also note that this is the last week for the hoodies, the last date for taking orders for the club hoodies is the 1stof March.

JFL Division 3, Feb 18th2009

Dungourney 6-6 (24)

Lisgoold 3-6 (15)

At Dungourney

LAST Wednesday week, lisgoold headed off down the short route to dungourney as both second teams clashed for the league points at stake. Lisgoold seemed to have gone off with a bang as the quickly notched up 1-2 in the first few minutes, with Jamie Woods getting the Goal. Dungourney stormed back and great game was developing as they hit two crackers for goals and lisgoold responded with another from Dave O’Sullivan. The spectators were looking forward to another great 30 minutes as the score read 2-4 to 2-2 in favour of Lisgoold.

However, the second half was a different story. An injury to our goalie (Hago) forced the selectors to bring on Timmy O’Callaghan. It has been a while since Tim has played for Lisgoold, as he found it difficult to settle in and it showed. With Brian Rodgers at full forward, The ‘Duns’ took full advantage as he ran riot scoring a hat-trick of goals, adding to the one he got in the first half and dungourney had the game sewn up as John Cody hit in a penalty with a few minutes remaining. Paul Stack did manage a consolation penalty but it was much too late.

Castlelyons 2-14 (20)

Lisgoold 0-0 (0)

At Lisgoold

Due to one reason or another, Lisgoold second string could only manage to produce the bare fifteen players, as they were swatted aside by Castlelyons with little fuss. Lisgoold did play with a lot of pride, and this was seen through Noel O’Riordan, Patrick Connery and Alan Conroy who played well. This Game will be quickly forgotten though, as Castlelyons first team were just simply too strong.

Team:Ger O’Connell, Michael Beirne, Noel O’Riordan, Patrick Connery, Kieran O’Shea, Finbarr Brosnan, Mike O’Riordan, Charles Smart, Alan Conroy, Jamie Woods, Dave O’Sullivan, Paul O’Brien, Rob Smart, Paul Stack, Paudie Ryan.
