Car Draw

On Friday 26th April a big crowd was in attendance for the Car draw at Cavanaghs Fermoy showroom. 30 people all guaranteed a prize of 250 euro with two prizes of 500 euro and brand new Ford Fiesta and Ford Ka up for grabs as well. MC on the night was Alan Shortt and he put on quite a show entertaining the crowd prior to the draw, the showroom was full of laughter at his impersonations and jokes. The draw itself began and  the names were drawn and whittled down to four. Aine and Cathal O’Callaghan, James McCarthy, George Townend and Thomas Geaney all were out but still had a cheque for 250 euro not bad for a nights work. We still had Noel Ryan left and were all hoping he could get his hands on a car, alas not to be as he came out next and received a cheque for 500 euro. Congratulations to all that won the prizes the two cars going to Tom O’Neill Ballyclough got the Fiesta and Tom McNamara Newtownshandrum won the Ka. A big thanks to Cavanaghs Fermoy for their Sponsorship of the League and the brilliant night they put together on Friday thanks also to the Avondhu Gaa Board. It was a brilliant chance for the club to make some money and I would like to thank all those who put in a big effort selling tickets.

County Junior Hurling League

Dungourney 2-18 Ballymartle 1-11

The lads bounced back from the disappointing result against Midleton with a win against Ballymartle on Saturday last. Facing into a deceptively strong breeze for the first thirty minutes, we drew first blood Niall Motherway scoring a point. Ballymartle opened their account with two points, Sean Hegarty got his first point following nice build up play from Niall and James Leahy. Ballymartle were looking sharp and got the next three points of the game, Bill Ahern replied with a long range point. Ballymartle added another point from a long distance free. Three quick fire points from the lads levelled the game James Leahy, Shane Hegarty both play and a Ryan Denny free. The next few scores were back and forth Ballymartle pointing Brian Ahearne replying Ballymartle pointing Jack Griffin replying from distance. The next score was a beauty some great interplay from midfield up ended with James Leahy feeding Sean and he made no mistake blasting to the net. Shane added another point from play and a Ryan free stretched our lead. 1-10 to 0-8 at half time.

With the wind at our backs it would have been easy for our lads to ease off but if anything the workrate increased in the second half. Ballymartle got the first point, James Leahy from play and Ryan free replied with two points. The lads kicked on further after a Ballymartle point, Kenneth Kelleher a Shane free and Jack now at wing forward all raised white flags. Shay O’Gorman lively after coming on gathered a ball on the wing broke through a few tackles, drove straight at goal and fired a bullet into the corner of the net. A reply straight away came from Ballymartle they goaled from play. Shay got a point from play with Ballymartle getting their own. Another Shay point from play and Shane from a free rounded off the scoring. This was a vastly improved performance from the lads, a massive increase in workrate with plenty hooking and blocking forcing Ballymartle into tough shots. Upfront the forwards were buzzing around plenty movement always looking for the man in a better position and the scores followed. Another two points on the board a break from Hurling with Football Championship down for next weekend.
