Feile ‘B’ Hurling Final

Lisgoold 1-3 (6)

Youghal 0-11 (11)

At Ballincollig

18th of April 2015

The skyline on the northern edge of Lisgoold village is recently changing constantly, as the roof of the impressive new Clubhouse edges further upwards. When the final project officially opens , a framed photograph of the 2015 Feile na nGael Team will surely stand out proudly in the carpeted foyer . Saturday was an historic day, when a young team from the parish played (for the first time ever) in a Feile Final. Ballincollig was the location of the historic game, and, whilst defeat was our outcome, nothing could be taken from our history makers.

As usual, the blue and gold bandwagon rolled westwards in huge numbers, and our heroes, as always, all played their hearts out. Captain Cathal Hickey won the toss and, aided by a stiff breeze, we dominated early exchanges. A fantastic catch, turn and strike from Mark O'Keeffe just whizzed wide in the early skirmishes. A dominant half back display from Sayef Ziad and our MOTM Robbie Kinnane kept a really powerful opponent side at bay. A brace of points by Cathal was scant reward for some great play, while the boys from the seaside seemed to work their scores well. A daunting task at the short whistle saw us trail by three with the disadvantage of a buoyant opposition and a stiffening wind advantage to face.

The second half was a thriller, with Youghal stretching the lead to four before another Cathal (leading the charge by example) white flag narrowed the disadvantage to a single score, and then we dreamed!! Seven minutes remained when Izaak Walsh won a breaking ball, and fed Cormac Hallahan. Cormac popped inside his marker and with a deft drop of the shoulder, deceived the keeper and raised the green flag, levelling the game.

It was not to be, however, as Youghal deservedly ran out victors, despite a fantastic display between the sticks by Evan Manning, whose goalkeeping display deserved the applause of all who admired his brilliance.

Someday that photo will be dusted down and removed by one of another team who will themselves create another level of history, but, for now, our Feile team are the heroes of 2015.
