League Victory for Junior Hurlers

Junior B Hurling League.

Youghal 2-15  Castlelyons 4-10

Castlelyons took on Youghal in Youghal in the first match of the Junior B hurling league. Numbers were a bit tight due to work and college commitments with sixteen players turning out on the night.
This turned out to be an excellent game of hurling with Youghal  very sharp as one would expect as they will be playing Junior A C'Ship this year. The first half was a very evenly contested  half with the teams ending level at  Youghal 0-10  Castlelyons 1-7.
Second half continued in same vein with five goals ,in total, scored by both sides.
Two Timmy McCarthy "specials" from close in frees finally swung it in Castlelyons' favour
to ensure Castlelyons took the 2 league points on offer on a final score of Castlelyons 4-10  Youghal 2-15.

PI Hurling

Castlelyons 1-16  Ring 1-16

As we had no league match arranged for last weekend we played a challenge match in Castlelyons against Ring of Co Waterford. On a fine afternoon this turned out to be a fast game of hurling and good preparation for the championship which is now 4 weeks away. M Spillane and S Moroney had the first scores for Castlelyons in a half that there was never more than 1 point between the sides. A Fenton, P Mahon and S Moroney completed the scoring to leave sides tied at 8 pts each at half time.  Ring scored an early goal in the second half and held this advantage until the last minute when A Fenton scored a goal,  following good work by S Moroney, to level the match. Castlelyons had points in this half from C Spillane,P Mahon, A Fenton and R O Regan who was making his return after a long term injury. Our next action is  a challenge match against Meelin on Thursday 23rd in Castlelyons and we have U21 football championship V Kilmeen on Sun 26th.
