Junior A Football Championship;

Our interest in this year’s Michael O’Connor sponsored Junior A football championship came to a premature end on Thursday night last.

The game was played in Ballinacurra before a large attendance on a perfect night for football.Aghada played with the advantage of whatever breeze was blowing and pointed into a lead straight from the throw in. Our response was swift with a Ciaran Mullins fisted point.Aghada scored the next 2 points which were cancelled out by a Diarmuid O’Sullivan free and a fine effort from Ashley Walsh from play.

A Diarmuid free put us ahead for the first and only time on 13 minutes and this seemed to jolt Aghada into action as they registered 1.04 without reply to lead 1.08 to 4 points with half time approaching.

A very well worked goal scored by Keith Dennehy reduced the deficit to a more manageable 4 points 1.08 to 1.04 at the short whistle.

Unfortunately Aghada got the start to the second half that we needed when they scored a goal expertly finished from the ground to give us a mountain to climb.

We scored the next point from Killian Cronin following a short free but the fast moving Aghada team scored the next 5 points before Diarmuid stopped the rot with a pointed free.

Aghada’s final score of the game a point from play put them firmly in control leading 2.14 to 1.06 but credit to the lads they kept plugging away and began to create numerous chances but could only manage to score 1.02, the goal coming from Domhnall O’Sullivan and the points from Ciaran and a Diarmuid free all which only served to give a more respectable look to the scoreboard.

We can’t have any complaints as we were well beaten by a very good Aghada team who now progress to play our first round opponents Midleton in round 3.
