EC Junior 'B' FC: Glenbower Rvrs 1-05 St Catherines 0-10[AET]

Our Jr B Footballers headed to Dungourney on Easter Monday to take on St. Catherines in the 1st round of the Jr. B Football Championship and what a perfect day it was for a football match. This was to turn out to be a great battle between two evenly matched teams. We had a nice blend of youth and experience in the team and played some very good football at times with Shane Scully leading the way from goals and with Dermot, Conor and Ger in outstanding form in the full back line, Ben was outstanding at centre back and with Jack and Darren ably assisting him on the wings. Ger and Brendan worked hard all through the game. In the half forward line Tadgh scored two points with the outside of the boot that the Colm Copper would be proud of, Jack and Dave worked hard on the wings through out as did Jack, Kevin and Martin in the full forward line. It was great to see the team work and the effort put in by everyone and we created enough chances to win the game but we left our scoring boots at home, but still managed to draw level at full time when we were awarded a penalty, which Brendan put away nicely and from the kick out Darren scored the levelling point to force extra time. However we again struggled to turn our possession into scores in extra time and eventually went down on a score line of 10 points to 1-5. While we were disappointed with the result we were delighted with the effort put in by the team and Eric, Peter and James when the came on.

Cobh host a Féile of Hurling!

Congrats to hosts Cobh GAA for their victory in our 4-team Féile U-14 Hurling Blitz last Saturday, and also for their fine efforts off the pitch in providing ample refreshments for all supporters and teams throughout the day. Our team were a little unlucky to have to play a fresher Cobh team in their final game, having defeated St. Colman’s and Na Piarsaigh in our first two games. We defeated St. Colman’s by 3-3 to 0-3 with Ben O’Connor and Robbie Treacy the goal scorers and Danny Cunningham and Paul Delaney hurling well in defence. In our second game against Na Piarsaigh it looked as if our half-time lead of just six points (1-4 to 0-1) wouldn’t be enough playing against a gale, but we played our best fifteen minutes of hurling to win by 3-5 to 1-4. Daniel Lucey was the star of this game with 2-1, while Ciaran Leahy added 1-1. Others to shine were Karl O’Toole, David Kelly, Cathal Fitzgibbon and cúl báire Dara Motherway. Unfortunately we were unable to get the better of a physically stronger Cobh team in our final game, losing by 2-8 to 1-2 despite resilient performances from many including Richie Landers, Robert Sinclair and Christian Coughlan. Best wishes to Cobh in the quarter-final.[CM]

Killeagh-Itas travelled to Carrigtwohill on a beautiful sunny bank holiday Monday. The home side started brightly getting the first 4 scores but Killeagh-Itas rallied and were in front 4-8 to 3-6 at half time. Killeagh-Itas continued at the start of the second half putting more scores on the scoreboard. Carrigtwohill started picking off a few scores and on the 50th minute the sides were level for the 3rd time. Carrigtwohill continued putting pressure on the Killeagh-Itas back line and in the last couple of seconds of the game they scored a goal. The game finished on a final score of Carrigtowhill 7-8 to Killeagh-Itas 5-11.[TG]

Under 12 Football: Killeagh-Ita’s 6-4, Midleton 2-2

Our Under 12 footballers made it two from two in the Eastern A League with a strong performance against Midleton in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Saturday afternoon. The wind disrupted the game somewhat but our boys were able to move the ball quickly against the wind in the first half and led by 3-2 to 1-1 at half-time. George Walsh, Colm Treacy and Evan Lane formed a formidable spine from defence to midfield, while David Buttimer shone at left-half back. Well done boys, unbeaten now in three games this year, with hurling next against St. Catherine’s.[CM]
