Junior A Football Championship

Lisgoold 0-4 (4)

Bride Rovers 4-6 (18)

At Ballynoe

28th March 2015

Our Junior ‘A’ footballers will be playing Cobh in the next round of the Junior A championship as they succumbed to a fourteen point defeat. We start off brightly as great link play by John McCarthy, John Cronin and Charles Smart ensured a platform for John Cashman to slot over a couple of white flags. After thirteen minutes we were 0-4 to 0-1 ahead and doing well. However, our players were found wanting after a few physical challenges which seemed to have stemmed our flow and raised the Bride’s morale. In fact we were hit with a sucker punch in the 22nd minutes as the Rovers through two mistakes of our own hit 2-1 in one minute to turn the tie upside down, at the short-whistle it was 2-3 to 0-4.

The second half consisted of Lisgoold not turning up and Bride Rovers holding firm. They bossed Lisgoold in the second half and our lads didn’t have much to answer, in fact we seemed to be quite subdued. Rovers eased their way to victory and our misery was complete as we had a man sent off for two yellows in the last five minutes. This can only be described as a bad day in the office, and one hopes that we can recover in time to face the challenge of Cobh. All in the club, would like to wish Noel Connery a speedy recovery from a nasty injury he received from the game.

Junior B Football Championship

Lisgoold 2-8 (14)

Aghada 2-13 (19)

At Rostellan

29th March 2014

Our second string put in a brave performance in a blustery Rostellan pitch, in truth the wind dictated how both teams played as it cut-across the Aghada venue. Lisgoold seemed to be torn apart as the white flag was continuously put up, however stout defending from Ciaran, Darragh, Donal & John ensured it was damage limitation and we didn’t suffer too badly. In fact, our forwards did well to register a score, as the conditions proved difficult to play in. Jer O’Connell and Finbarr Brosnan with the help of Caoimhan O’Se and Patrick

Connery were doing well. Aghada were fortunate enough to raise a green flag as a long range shot swirled in the wind putting of keeper Kevin O’Shea. We were a good bit back at 1-11 to 0-3.

The second half saw a decent fight-back from the lads, Subs Dave Barry, Mick Berine and especially Fergal Roche who were inspirational as they rejuvenated a Lisgoold comeback. Fergal, who finished a wonderful team move with a goal after being set-up by Ciaran O’Se & Moss Mulcahy. A second goal was lashed in by Jer O’Connell and suddenly Aghada pressed the panic button. In fact, we had several chances to close the gap further but couldn’t convert. The men in green got a late goal which sealed the deal for them; however our lads can be proud of their efforts. Also one should consider that this was bizarrely their first outing of the year, one should not be too harsh on them. They will play Midleton in the first round proper this Saturday, with venue and time TBC.
