Summer-Time In Rostellan Pitch

The 2015 Aghada GAA Season is already in the fast lane, with Rostellan Pitches fully utilised during the week. With summer time upon us and the use of the lights not required, our four clubs ( Senior Club, Juvenile Club, Camogie and Ladies Football clubs ) work together to provide Training/Match times to suit all. Thanks to Maurice lights operator and Seamus for keeping the booking slots available for all to observe!!

U8 Football Blitz

On Saturday our U8 footballers headed to Killeagh GAA pitch to take part in the Imokilly U8 Monster Blitz. A total of eighteen teams took part, with each group getting to play in three games. This was a great success for all involved Thanks to Sean, Alan, Mark and Anthony who helped out with the Aghada teams on the day. Thanks to Luke O’ Connell and Niall Hill who dished out no red cards as Aghada Club Juvenile Referees on the day. A special word of thanks to Killeagh GAA Club for providing refreshments to all involved.

U12s Play inPairc Ui Rinn

A visit to Pairc Ui Rinn to watch a match is a big occasion, but to get to play there with Cork, and Mayo Senior footballers are in action and Cork and Wexford Senior Hurlers also playing at the same venue (29th March 2015) must truly be one of your greatest sporting memories in one’s life-time. At half time of the senior football game, two Aghada U12 football teams played Clondrohid and Buttevant in a very entertaining 11-a-side game. What a proud moment for all involved and all those SEEN wearing the GREEN!! A special word of thanks to Diarmuid, Derick, Eoin and Anthony for helping out with the teams on this big sporting event.

Premier 1 Minor Football Championship

On Friday March 27th Aghada Minor Footballer Team travelled to UCC Grounds The Mardyke to compete in the opening round of the Premier 1 Minor football championship game V Carrigaline. Congrats to the Aghada Team who put in such a brilliant display of team football but at the final whistle were unlucky to have lost out by a single point to advance to Semi- final stage. Aghada play Beara in the back door series of this competition.

report

We often talk about a game of two half's and indeed this was one on a calm night at the magnificent Mardyke
The game opened even enough as Carrigaline went two points clear after as many minutes. Two frees from man of the match John Looney levelled matters before Aaron Berry put the Seasiders ahead on the 8th m for as it turns out the 1st and only time. Slowly the Carrig boys turned the screw and were three points to the good before Aghada were to score again when Looney converted a dead ball on 22m.
For the next eight minutes it was all Carrigaline as they drove forward and by the short whistle had added 2-2 to leave clear water between the sides 2-8 to 0-4.

What ever Counihan had in the bottle it worked as Aghada broke from the traps when Kevin O'Hanlon pulled a point back from the throw in. Minutes later Looney added another as Aghada surged forward then for the second time in a week we witnessed a brilliant Looney goal and Aghada were back in the game. Points followed from Berry, Hanlon, and Looney (free) to close the gap to just two points as Carrig struggled to contain a rampant Aghada side as we entered the last quarter.

Carrig stopped the rot on the 46th m scoring their opening point of the half. Within a minute Looney had it back to a two point game as Aghada came again Minutes later the post came to Carrig's aid but Aghada drew a free which Berry converted. From the kick out Carrig worked the leather up field and got the insurance score they needed with two minutes left on the clock.
Aghada again drove forward but despite a Looney free time ran out for the Seasiders.
So near and yet so far but what a performance, from a side that gave everything. Last year the two teams that met in the opening round met again in the final history could replete it's self.
