Cobh 1-14 Russell Rovers 1-11

On a beautiful Sunday morning in Cobh, We lined out for our first competitive hurling fixture in the 2015 calendar. After a Rather lacklustre start we found ourselves trailing by four points until a free 65 yards out from Daniel Moynihan found its way to the back of the net. Rover’s stepped up from there and began to play some nice hurling. Daire Healy in particular working hard up front and setting up some fine scores by Derek Crowley and Kevin Moynihan. Rovers defence was solid for the opening half with Dan Moynihan in his new role a Centre Back being instrumental with his clever distribution of the ball. Another fine point by Derek Crowley saw us just 2 points down going into the break on a score line of 0-11 to 1-06.

The second half was a tightly contested affair with Rovers beginning the brighter. Some hard work by the half backs created a great score for Kevin Moynihan. While rovers exile Pa Crowley fired over his first point since returning home. With 15 Minutes to go disaster struck as Cobh sneaked in for a goal after some confusion in the full back line. Another Point from Cobh left them 5 up. Kevin Moynihan pointed a free from 60 yards out to leave four points between the teams. With 5 minutes to go Rovers Sprung Kieran Ivers from the bench and with the last puck of the ball Ivers Split the sticks to leave it 1-14 to 1-11 in favour of Cobh. Overall an entertaining hours hurling and Rovers will be happy with the performances considering they were missing some key players.
