U 21 Football

Castlelyons 2-11  Castlegoold 1-07

Castlelyons won the East Cork U 21 B football championship on Friday night when we overcame Castlegoold in a fine game of football played on a lovely surface in Killeagh. The first half was a tight even affair with some great points scored by both sides. N O Leary had our first point of the match followed by points from A Spillane and A Fenton to leave us leading by 0-03 to 0-02 after 10 mins. S Hickey came out of goals to score a 45 after 15 mins to extend our lead and with points in the last quarter from A Spillane , N O Leary and A Fenton we went in at half time leading by 0-08 to 0-05. This was a very even half and but for some excellent play from our goalkeeper and backlines we would not have been ahead. We got a great start to the second half when in the first attack a shot from R Bransfield came back off the post to A Fenton who finished to the net for a great goal. With S Moroney excelling at midfield we dominated possession in the second half and with further points from N O Leary, A Spillane and R Bransfield we extended our lead to 6 points . With our backlines again winning every ball that came their way we restricted Castlegoold to 2 pointed frees in the second half and when A Spillane rounded his marker to score a fine goal with 5 mins left we had this match won. Castlegoold had the last score of the match to leave the final score Castlelyons 2-11 Castlegoold 1-07. Well done to this panel on a fine victory and great to win silverware so early in the season. Best of luck to Castlegoold's Declan Kelly who left the pitch with a nasty knee injury hope you are back playing soon.

Castlelyons   2-16  Kildorrery   1-18

We collected our first win of this years league when we defeated Kildorrery on Sunday morning after a fine hours hurling. Kildorrery had the first 2 points of the match with R Bransfield replying with a point for Castlelyons. A Fenton and R Bransfield scored 2 more points to level the match on 0-03 each after 10 mins. A ball out of defence from C Barry found R Feeney in midfield who sent a great ball into A Fenton who beat his man and scored a great team goal to give Castlelyons a 3 point lead. Kildorrery again levelled the match with 3 points before T Carroll came through from midfield to score a good point. All the team were working very hard for each other now and when S Moroney gave a great ball to E Maye he scored another fine team goal. We had further points from A O Sullivan, A Fenton, and M Spillane to close out the half on a score of Castlelyons 2-09 Kildorrery 0-13. Kildorrery scored an early goal in the second half to take the lead again and we had to work very hard to stay with them. We had points from M Spillane and R Bransfield to level the match after 10 mins. Unfortunately we lost a back to a second yellow card and the pressure came on us but we had some great performances in the backs and forwards with everyone working themselves to a standstill. K O Leary and C O Leary cleared great ball in this half to set up scores for A Fenton , M Spillane, and A O Sullivan as we remained 2 points ahead. We finished out the match defending our lead and ended up good value for our victory. Well done to everyone involved on this important win and now lets keep this run going.
