Dungourney GAA Notes

Junior Football League

Dungourney 2-10 Ballinacurra 0-10

We were very very slow to start this game with it taking us fifteen minutes to wake up and by that stage Ballinacurra were after kicking themselves into a six point lead. We got our first score on the board after nineteen minutes Niall Motherway up from centre back raising a white flag. From the resulting kickout Diarmuid Rohan won the ball offloaded to Shane Hegarty and he slotted over. The same combination linked up again on twenty five minutes with another point added. Ballinacurra got the next two scores with Brian Ahearne adding one from a free. That left the half time score Dungourney 0-4 Ballinacurra 0-8 and we were still well in the game after an awful start.

We were quick out of the blocks to start the second half Diarmuid pointing from a Kenneth Kelleher pass and Shane adding his 3rd point from a Mark Hegarty pass. Ballinacurra got the next two points of the game leaving them four points up after forty five minutes. Ten minutes left and still down four points, the lads really knuckled down. The defense was like a wall impenetrable, midfield turning ball after ball over and the forwards running relentlessly at the Ballinacurra defense. Ryan Denny kicked two fine points from play to cut the deficit to two points with five minutes remaining. Mark had a long range effort hit the post and Karl Kiely was quickest to react and he finished to the net putting us a point in front. Karl added a point a minute later with Shane adding another minor giving us the goal lead. Ballinacurra pushed hard to try and get a goal but we were the ones to get the final score. Brendan Rohan burst forward from corner back with the ball laid it off to Dylan Murphy and he rattled the back of the net for our second goal.  A great win for the lads a much improved second half performance and greater workrate will have delighted the management with championship only around the corner.
