Intermediate Hurling;

Round 2 of the this years Division 1 hurling league took us on the picturesque journey to Ballinspittle to lock horns with local team Courcey Rovers.

Playing with a slight breeze Courceys were first to score with a fine point from the sideline,a fine Brian O’Shea point drew us level in the next attack.

Scores for the remainder of the half were hard to come by and by half time we were only a point in arrears 7 points to 6,Dillon Cahill with two pointed free’s and points from play by Ian Cahill,Stevie Beausang and Keith Dennehy were our first half scorers.

We were very quick out of the blocks in the second half and scored 1.04 in the first 10 minutes to which Courceys reply was a pointed free,Keith was the goal scorer when he kicked to the net following a goalmouth scramble.

Points from Dillon and an excellent Briain Minihane effort from the half back line opened up a 5 point lead and we were hurling well.

Courceys replied with 4 points on the trot to narrow the gap to the minimum but when Dillon and second half sub Ciaran Mullins pointed to open up a goal advantage it looked like the long journey down would be a fruitful one.

The pendulum swung Courceys way again and they leveled the game due in the main to the accuracy of their free taker with 2 minutes left on the clock.

Another pointed free put them ahead for the first time since half time and despite 2 excellent chances to draw level from play and a scoreable 25 yard free both of which were squandered we left empty handed.

While it was disappointing to lose it was a good battling performance and another positive is that 10 of the starting 15 are aged 22 and under.
