JFL Division 1

Lisgoold 1-11 (14)

Carrignavar 1-4 (7)

At Carrignavar

Sun 8th March 2015

A great win was earned in extremely wet and heavy bog-like Carrignavar pitch. A disastrous start as we conceded 1-1 early in the game however this proved to be carrig’s only scores for the half, as the forwards dissected the posts at a regular occurrence with Wayne Kingston leading the way, the backs were frugal-like and give a very efficient performance with Patrick O’Mahony and Eoin O’Sullivan stepping up to the plate. At the short-whistle it was 0-7 to 1-1. The second half it was tit for tat as scores were traded, the key moment came with 13 minutes remaining with the scores at 0-8 to 1-3. After a wonderful team move, Wayne was the end to raise the green flag, which raised Lisgoold spirits and deflated Carrignavar’s. The gamed peeped out and we finished on the right side of a seven point win. It was a tough examination and whilst the ground was extremely tough for bog snorkelling never mind football, errors were there to be seen and our squad need to sharpen a bit more. However, with a few more games under the belt and a continuation high attendance in training, we seem to be heading in the right direction.

Under 21 BFC Semi-final

Castlegoold 1-8 (11)

Dungourney 1-7 (10)

At Youghal

Sat 7th March 2015

After dethroning the champions in the previous round, our Under21’s pulled off a sensational last-minute victory as they knocked out Dungourney in a windswept and dizzily Mangers field in youghal. In truth it was a dog-fight with very few scores in the first half, as our lads again played with a simple game-plan which was aided with some outstanding team-work. Cathal Cashman,

Kieran O’Se, Liam Martin, Cathal Martin & Andrew Donovan were outstanding for our lads as they stemmed the tide. John Cashman who was to be joined by

brother Kieran Cashman who was very industrial as they penetrated the Duns defence. Half time it was 0-3 apiece.

The second half the game opened out slightly as both sides raised their game and traded points early Cashman with ours (who ended with 1-5). Entering the final ten minutes, Dungourney got a goal via a cruel deflection and it looked like our hopes were dashed at 1-7 to 0-8. However, it wasn’t over yet another counter attack led to 13 yard free. Cashman took it and managed to raise a green flag. Euphoria was filtering through the ranks as we were on the brink of the final. This set-up a grandstand finish, in which it was a case of great defiance from our lads that held the green and gold out. The Martin brothers especially, were again immense as a team effort helped Castlegoold over the line. It was a wonderful win and they will now have a crack off Castlelyons in the final. Well done lads.
