Sat 7th Mar U12 B1 Football Aghada 2-8 Carrignavar 2-4

The U12 footballers got their year off to winning ways with a 2-08 to 2-04 victory over Carrig na bhFear.

The conditions were difficult for both sides and it certainly was a game of 2 halves. After winning the coin toss Captain for the day Ronan Murphy decided to play against the wind for the first half.

With their backs to the wall the players gave a fantastic team performance with Shane Lewis and Donagh Collins commanding the back line with support from Ronan Murphy and Sean O’Callaghan.

Jack Colbert had a great game in goals. His kick outs were fantastic, finding his team mates every time.

The mid field pairing of Micheal Stafford and Conall Rooney began to get a stronghold in middle of the field.

Up front the forwards were working hard in the windy conditions and scores were difficult to come by. Scott Whyte and Eoin Motherway were teaming up well, supported by Luke O’Driscoll, Fionn Mulligan & Tommi Oosthuizen. The score at half time was Aghada 0-02 Carrig na bhFear 2-04.

Now with the wind in their backs Aghada started to make it count on the scoreboard. Kalem Keane, Ross Foley, Johnnie O’Regan, Ross Foley, Fintan Cody &Thomas Land were all introduced from the bench early in the second half. Straight away Eoin Motherway kicked his second point with scores also coming from Scott Whyte, Fintan Cody and Kalem Keane. Great goals for Scott Whyte and Fintan Cody helped Aghada towards a great victory.

This was a great team performance and you can see the improvements from the training pitch transfer into the match. Keep it up lads.

Sat 7th Mar East U16 B2 football Cobh 3-6 Aghada 3-6

Sat 7th Mar U21A Football Championship Aghada 4-16 Erin's Own 1-3

AGHADA going for three East Cork U21A football titles in a row looked like the team to beat again this year with a very polished performance and an emphatic victory over Erin’s Own last Saturday afternoon in Killeagh where the reigning champions managed to amass 28 points and only conceded seven points in reply.

Scoring from all angles from nearly every forward is a lethal weapon to defend against and Aghada have a wealth of scoring power to choose from.

Aghada had the extremely strong wind at their backs in the first half and made great use of it notching up three early points. Shane Bennett opened the scoring with two points followed by one from Stephen Murphy.

On the 11th minute Aghada doubled their advantage with a good reaction goal as a shot rattled the Erin’s Own crossbar and Conor O’Driscoll was quickest to react as he pounced on the ball and drove it into the goal.

Things got worse for the Caherlag men when after tagging on another three points from play without reply, Aghada added their second goal of the afternoon from Aaron Berry to leave twelve points between the sides.

Aghada were rampant with four additional first half points, to a solitary score from play from Erin’s Own Lorcan Finnegan to leave Aghada lead at the break by fifteen points 2-10 to 0-1.

The second half again showed the gulf in class between the two sides as Aghada came out and added another two points off Stafford and a placed ball from Berry, then full forward John Looney raised Aghada’s third green flag of the afternoon.

Erin’s Own did have a well finished goal from Stephen Lee on the 36th minute, but Aghada had a fourth goal from Stephen Murphy late on and overwhelmed the Caherlag men finishing with a 21 point margin and a place in the final against Glanmire.
