Cloyne GAA Notes;

23 February, 2015

Cloyne Commons Challenge;

Despite very inclement running conditions a very creditable 195 runners took part in race number 4 of 5.The race was won by local man Sean McGrath in 12.40 to continue his dominance of the race.

The last race in the series takes place on Sunday 29th March and a reminder that Tee shirts are available to runners who completed any 4 of the 5 races.

Scor Sinsear 2015;

Congratulations to the Cloyne Scor group under Michael Greaney’s stewardship who won the Felix Sarsfield’s trophy for best overall club at the recent Scor Sinsear Finals.

We were placed in first position in the Musical Instruments and Recitation and runners up in the Ballad Group.

They now go through to the County Final in all 3 competitions in Eire Og Club on Sunday 8th March

There was no winner of last week’s lotto draw for a €3000 jackpot or no winner of the €1000 prize for matching 3 numbers plus the bonus.

The winning numbers drawn were 12,15,20,28 bonus 23.

Congratulations to Mona Lee c/o Anthony Murphy who wins €150 as the only person to match 3 numbers.

Next week’s draw for a €3,200 prize will take place in Harty’s Bar and Restaurant with tickets available from all local outlets.

Junior Football;

The Junior A footballers were brought back down to earth on Sunday last following a 3 point defeat to visitors Carrignavar in round 2 of the league.

A display that was very much in contrast to last week’s display against Ballinacurra,we opened the scoring in the first attack of the match when Diarmuid O’Sullivan pointed from play but incredibly had to wait until the 13th minute of the second half for our next score a Ciaran Mullins point from play.

Carrignavar weren’t much better in the scoring stakes but were good value for their 4 points to one half time lead.

The second half didn’t improve much and the closest we got was to two points following a goaled penalty and pointed free from Diarmuid.

Carrignavar finished the games scoring with a pointed free to bring the curtain down on a forgettable display and game.

The beauty of sport is that there is always another game and a chance to right the wrongs,we will hope to improve on Thursday night at 7,30 pm when we travel to Cobh for round 3 of the league.
