on the field: The under 14 footballers welcome Kanturk to fouhys last Monday night in a football challenge. Both teams played out a thriller of a match in a very high scoring game. Unfortunately the lads were very unlucky to be beaten on the night by two points 5-7 to 5-5 the final score well done to all on a great game of Gaelic football well done  to our lads who never gave up all played excellent and thanks to Kanturk for making the long journey down to Fouhys to play our lads. The junior footballers kicked off their season with an opening round 1 league fixture against Glanmire last Wednesday night in fouhys. Conditions were not good but the lads put on a brilliant performance and ran out winners on a score line of 0-7 to 0-4 a great start to year. The under 16 footballers started their league campaign with a win on Saturday last against a strong Killeagh side both teams put on a great display but our lads who were that sharper than our opposition ran out winners on a score line of 4-8 to 1-2. The under 21 footballers and current East cork champions relinquished their title in the quarter final stage of the championship against a strong Castelgould side in a thriller of a match. The lads came into this game with great confidence after their first round win the previous week against Bride Rovers. The lads started off in great form with some excellence hand passing in the centre of the field and a Ben Halbert point in the opening five minutes had us up and running. The lads continued their impressive form with some excellent catching from Niall Griffin and Kevin O’Neill in the centre of the field and Josh Cooke who was on the receiving end of a long ball from Niall Griffin got in for the first goal of the game to put us four a head. But on the other hand Castelgould who were beginning to find their form hit three points without reply reducing the margin to just one but at the other end of the Field Josh Cooke restored our two point advantage going into the final five minutes of the half. The lads who were playing a great first half lost concentration and almost gifted Castelgould a goal but their effort flew high and straight over the crossbar a let of their as the clock ticked into injury time and it looked like the lads were going to take a one point lead with them at half time but Castelgould made up for the missed effort a few moments ago and hit the back of the Glenville net to take a two point lead at the interval 1-2 to 1-4. The second half saw Castelgould register the opening point to extend their lead to tree but our lads refused to given up and two quick points from Aaron Ricken and Brendan Maloney in a flash had the margin down to just one point but at the other end of the field Castelgould were almost in for their second goal of the game but Adain Foley pulled off a great save to keep the margin at one but in a matter of minutes Castelgould restored their 3 point lead. Our lads were beginning to lose their shape as Castelgould confidence grew as the game was reaching its climax and the lead was out to four points as our lads were caught on the counter attack. Ben Halbert reduced the lead back to 3 points going into the final five minutes and Josh Cooke chipped for a superb point and reduced the lead to just 2 but the Castelgould lead was restored back to three points as the clock ticked into a minute of injury time  our lads gave it everything in the dying moments of the game as they tried to   find a late goal to take the match into extra time but unfortunately time was not on our side as Castelgould ran out 3 points winners at the end of a thrilling game of Gaelic Football on a score line of 1-6 to 1-9.
